International Women’s Day
On Monday 8 March Tangara celebrated International Women’s Day. The theme for 2021 was #Choose to Challenge.
On this day we remember all the great women in our lives who challenge us daily, our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, friends and of course our teachers and mentors and all the other female staff members at Tangara who challenge us daily to be “robust and strong” women of character.
We say thank you to each of you for constantly inspiring us, for being exemplary role models and for challenging us each and every day to take up the challenges before us and encouraging us to be the women God has called us to be.
We were privileged to have Ms Bridget Sakr join us on this day. Bridget’s presentation at our IWD assembly was inspiring and challenging to say the least. In the face of adversity, she challenged us to hold on to our faith and trust in God. Despite all her professional accomplishments, Bridget spoke of motherhood as being her most accomplished and fulfilling achievement and reminded us of the greatest gift of all - the gift of life.
Lent
In the Holy Father’s Lenten Message, Pope Francis challenges us to “be increasingly concerned with “speaking words of comfort, strength, consolation and encouragement, and not words that demean, sadden, anger or show scorn” (Fratelli Tutti, 223). In order to give hope to others, it is sometimes enough simply to be kind, to be “willing to set everything else aside in order to show interest, to give the gift of a smile, to speak a word of encouragement, to listen amid general indifference” (ibid., 224). With only two weeks left until the end of Lent, let us strive to live this out in our relationships with others, building each other up, rather than bringing others down.
COVID-19 Revised Guidelines
Well, it seems like after 12 months since going into lock down, life is returning back to “normal”.
In line with the recent easing of restrictions in NSW, the three schooling sectors have continued to work with NSW Health to revise the current advice to schools. NSW Health has agreed to the following activities resuming across all schools in NSW effective 8 March 2021:
Parents and carers are able to enter school grounds but should continue to follow COVID safe practices, including social distancing between adults of 1.5 metres.
Parents and carers can attend school sporting events. School sporting events should align with requirements for community sporting competitions and training activities in NSW.
There are no recommended limits on singing groups in schools, including for in-class educational activities including repetition, chanting, recitation, or singing activities. Five metres is recommended between a group of performing singers and other people, including the audience and conductor, where practicable.
Dancing activities, including dance classes, formals and social events, can proceed, but organisers should comply with any venue restrictions.
Boarding schools have had restrictions lifted on separating cohorts of students to assist in their rooming arrangements and general organisation.

Pope Francis visits Iraq
These days we have been praying for the visit of Pope Francis to Iraq. It is the first trip of Pope Francis after the coronavirus pandemic, and he has visited Mosul and other regions once held by Islamic State. The Pope prayed among ruined churches in Mosul, the former ISIS stronghold, before meeting christians in Qaraqosh.
Celebrating Mass at a stadium in Erbil, he said Iraq would remain in his heart.
And in the photo below you can read Pope Francis' prayer intention for March.

It was wonderful news to hear of the NSW government’s easing on COVID restrictions this week. We will keep you posted in regards to specific upcoming events and how these changes will impact them.
Parent –Teacher interviews
You will have received an invitation to attend a Parent-Teacher interview with your child’s teacher. We are happy to be able to welcome you onto the campus but ask that you please follow the COVID-19 safe plan as outlined in the letter. During the interview you will be able to talk to the teacher about your child’s progress, ask questions and look at ways to provide support and encouragement to your child. It is important that parents, teachers and mentors work collaboratively to help your child achieve their very best.
GIVE Motto: Teamwork, Orderliness, Helpfulness and Courage
Tangara Infants is having a big focus on teamwork, orderliness, helpfulness and courage this term in our Grow In Virtue Everyday program. All our students in Prep, Kindergarten and Year 1 are being reminded of how important it is to help out when at home and at school. The GIVE Booklets that the Kindergarten & Year 1 students are bringing home are important activities that allow you to address these virtues with your children.
These foundational years are so important and as a united team, we can work on instilling these virtues for the long term benefit of your children.
News From Kindergarten Rust
Welcome to Kindergarten Rust! We have been learning so many phonograms this term. Did you know that the letters of the alphabet have so many different sounds? Well, we are about to learn them all! We really love learning about how to write and say the phonograms and Miss Harb says that we are brilliant at it. I wonder what phonogram we will do next.
We are working super hard in Mathematics! We can count so high and we are already learning to write our numbers too. We sort, group and count lots of different objects and we love using our Number Sense folders!
Have a look at our Fishbowl to 100, every day we count the fish and add another fish to our Fishbowl. On the 100th day of school we are going to celebrate!

Year 11 Biology students making models of the cell membrane
The Year 11 Biology students have been studying the structure and function of the cell membrane as part of the module "cells as the basis of life". They demonstrated their creative flair by making models of the cell membrane to show what they had learnt in class.
English Department
One of our main objectives for 2021 is to develop a passion for reading outside of the compulsory texts. Reading is one of the fundamental skills for improving English skills. Not only does it improve the use of language and provide models of good writing but it helps to broaden understanding of self and the world in which we live. In conjunction with the library, the girls have participated in ‘#books” where they had to match a set of statements to a range of books from the library. In doing so they were exposed to new titles and genres. This led to many of our students borrowing books they may not have looked at previously. The sessions were a great success and I would like to thank Jane Beard and Samantha Ellis for making this possible.
