Tangara’s very own Miss Katrina Alvir, Director of REAL Character Education and Secondary Staff Member, had the honour of having a paper published in In Alliance, the annual publication of a leading international voice for the advancement of girls’ education, The Alliance of Girls’ Schools Australasia.
In Miss Alvir’s article, titled, 'REAL Character Program: learning and living the science of character', she explains Tangara’s REAL program in great detail, highlighting the importance of character education at Tangara and how the mentoring system works alongside the program to develop the whole person - mind, body, spirit and heart.
In relation to the publication's theme for the year, 'Lessons learnt from COVID-19', Miss Alvir discussed the dynamic nature of the REAL Program to keep content "engaging, meaningful and practical". She gave the example of the REAL Program moving online during the COVID-19 lockdown and how students were encouraged to become "leaders in lockdown". Students were given relevant stimulus in the form of a TED Talk and plenty of practical suggestions to inspire them to live leadership in their everyday lives.
Thank you to Miss Alvir for your continued work with our high school students through the REAL Program and congratulations on being published. We are so blessed to have you at Tangara! To read the full article, visit: https://www.agsa.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/InAlliance-2020-digital_WEB.pdf
