It has been wonderful to welcome our staff and our students to Term 2 after an extended holiday break that incorporated both Easter and Anzac Day. I hope you and your families enjoyed this time together and I am sure that all our students are eager to participate in the enriching learning, formational and co-curricular programs that are so much a part of who we are at Tanagara.
Anzac Day Ceremony
Term 2 opened with a poignant Anzac Day commemoration service where our students honoured all those Australian women and men who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live in peace, freedom and democracy today. Our guest speaker Major Bill Duncan, reminded us of the important qualities of endurance, courage, ingenuity, camaraderie and kindness, values that we strive to integrate each day in our daily lives at school, at home and in our communities.
School Musical - Thank you!
Our School Musical, Shrek Junior last weekend was a truly magnificent showcase of the talent and hard work of our staff, students and volunteers. With a lively and catchy score, witty dialogue, engaging choreography, and spectacular costumes, the musical was a delightful theatrical experience taking us into a “big bright beautiful world”. The talent at Tangara never ceases to amaze me! Let’s hope we can enjoy our next musical in 2025 in our fully staged Yarra Hall.
Innovation Project
Last week you would have received a letter from Edstart who are partnering with us to make our 2023 Innovation Project possible. We need your help to raise $800K this year to complete Yarra Hall. Please refer to the details in the letter sent to you. I encourage you to take action today so that we can have the next School Musical and other co-curricular events on campus at our school, and enjoy the many benefits that come from these engaging opportunities.
May - Month our Our Lady and Mother’s Day
Traditionally the Church dedicates the month of May to the Blessed Virgin Mary. During this time we try to keep the Mother of God more present in our hearts by doing a pilgrimage, making little sacrifices in her honour, and praying the rosary with extra attention and devotion. Our students from Prep to Year 9 will have the opportunity to do a Pilgrimage, praying the Rosary at various Marian shrines on our school grounds. Our senior students will do their Pilgrimages at Kenthurst Study Centre and St Mary’s Cathedral. We also invite our parents to join us in praying the Rosary each Monday morning in our School Chapel asking for her intercession for our own personal intentions, for our families, our school community and for the needs of the world.
Happy Mother’s Day to all our Tangara mums for next Sunday. I hope you are able to join us for a special Mother’s Day Mass and morning tea next Friday 12 May at 9am in our School Chapel, followed by morning tea in McArthur.
It was lovely catching up with our Primary parents at last night’s KPF and I look forward to meeting up with our Secondary parents tonight as Melinda Tankard Reist presents on a very important topic in helping us to form our daughters “Navigating in a sexualized world: How can we help our children resist harmful messages from media and pop culture and aspire to respectful relationships?”
Thank you once again for your support and engagement in your children’s education. I look forward to seeing you all at the various meetings and events throughout Term 2.

Last weekend we enjoyed "Shrek Jr", the musical. It was a great production. I went to Saturday's function and it blew my mind. I didn't expect such a high quality performance. That Sunday I hummed some of the songs. Especially one that is very catchy and it also brings a message for us in May: I'm a believer. The lyrics talk about believing in love:
"I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me
Love was out to get me
That's the way it seemed
Disappointment haunted all my dreams."
Sometimes we may feel like the singer. In our relationship with our Lord Jesus we may think that loving Him with all the passion of our heart is a beautiful enterprise...but only in fairy tales. We don't think it is possible. And then, the transformation happens:
"And then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
And not a trace of doubt in my mind
I'm in love, I'm a believer
I couldn't leave her if I tried"
When we see the face of our Lady Mary we become believers. Living by the Love of Jesus is no longer a fairy tale but something that is doable. That is the role of our Lady in our relationship with Jesus. She is the way by which we come to believe. The love of Mary's heart is so warm that even if we try, we cannot leave her. And with Mary, we are able to undergo difficult moments, hardships and pain because we have a Love that carries us in those situations:
"I thought love was more or less a giving thing
The more I gave, the less I got, oh yeah
What's the use of tryin'
All you get is pain
When I wanted sunshine, I got rain
And then I saw her face, now I'm a believer."
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Mr Fayez Harb, grandfather of Jo Harb in Year 8.

From the Infants School
Welcome to Term 2
Welcome to Term 2

A warm welcome back to all our families at Infants and the wider Tangara community.
It’s hard to believe we are only in Week 2 as memories are already being created for the Infants children and with the busy term ahead, many more memories are to be made.
The term started with unseasonably warm days; however, we are now feeling the onset of the cooler autumn days. Now that the students have returned in their full winter uniform, it is a good time to check that all their belongings are clearly labelled. For any lost items, children may check the lost property basket, which can be found in the foyer of the Infants office.
ANZAC Day Ceremony
ANZAC Day Ceremony
We commenced the term with our ANZAC Day ceremony. Throughout the day the children learnt about the meaning of ANZAC Day and why we keep this day special in Australia. The children showed great respect throughout our ceremony, which our High School students led for us. After our ceremony, the children placed their carefully made poppies into our Remembrance Garden.

Play time
Play time
Wonderful visitors moved into the Infants playground during the Easter break. Fairy doors appeared on the trees and the children are enjoying playing with them.
It’s not only beautiful to observe little ones playing whilst using their imagination and creativity, it is also paramount for our children’s development, both academically and socially.

Kindergarten Religion
Kindergarten Religion
In Kindergarten we have been learning what the Resurrection of Jesus means to us. Interacting with our Empty Tomb diorama, the children listened carefully to the story of Easter Sunday. They enjoyed sharing their thoughts of what it must have been like to have arrived at the tomb, only to find that Jesus was not there. It was wonderful to listen to the children explain the possible thoughts of the soldiers, the women, and the apostles.
Afterwards, we each had a candle to show that each one of us has been given a little light from Jesus during baptism, which Jesus wants us to share with the world.

The term has started with a bang! Shrek has given us so much joy and enthusiasm for our school community. It was wonderful to see the Primary girls so involved and the energy they brought to the roles. We can’t wait for the next musical!
Winter Uniform
How lovely it is to see the students wearing their winter uniforms with such pride. Thank you for making a concerted effort to label all belongings and items of uniform. It is making such a difference to our lost property pile.
ANZAC Ceremony
Our Primary Captains and some Primary Monitors assisted in presenting the ANZAC ceremony for our School last week. We reflected on the address of our guest, Major Bill Duncan, as he spoke of his life experience and reminded us of the ANZAC spirit.
Parent teacher Interviews Year 3,4,5
In Week 3 we welcome parents of our Yr 3, 4 and 5 classes to attend Parent Teacher Interviews. These opportunities to partner together, teachers and parents are invaluable.
Mothers Day Stall
Our students will have the opportunity to buy something special for their Mum at our Mother’s Day Stall which is being held next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Gifts are available from $3 to $30, so there is something for everyone! We ask that all children bring their money in a labelled, sealed envelope to minimise the chance of loosing their money.
The Month of May
Our school Rosary Pilgrimages have begun. Each class in the Junior School will participate in an age appropriate pilgrimage, presenting flowers and saying the rosary in front of a statue of Our Lady. It is a lovely opportunity to come together as a class and pray for our families and special intentions.
Write On Competition
We are encouraging our girls to participate in the 2023 Write On Competition. This competition is held in association with the State Library of NSW and is a great opportunity for students to practise their creative writing skills. Congratulations to the girls who have already submitted entries.
Creativity in the Playground
We have been blessed with such lovely weather, the girls have used their imagination and creativity to design some very inventive games. Please enjoy a picture snapshot of our lunchtime play.
Artistic Surroundings
The Namoi Building has come to life with some stunning artworks. Such splashes of colour make us truly appreciate how talented our students and teachers are. It’s hard not to smile when you walk through the building!

What we have been up to in 5R
What we have been up to in 5R
Year 5 students have had a very productive and engaging Term 1!
In Science, the students have been actively participating in hands-on learning experiments and participating in Web Quests about animal Adaptations. Students were continuing to develop their research and inquiry skills, as well as their knowledge of the natural world.
The students were preparing their writing skills for NAPLAN, as well as engaging in meaningful activities to broaden their vocabulary development and cohesive devices of writing.
In Health, students were kept busy creating visual displays about ways of how to sustain positive friendships. They were working in pairs, to encourage social interaction and creativity. Students were developing positive relationships with their peers and learning effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
In Maths, Year 5 participated in the Inquisitive Minds Problem Solving Group. This was a fantastic program which challenges students to think critically and analytically, whilst having FUN! Students were able to build their mathematical confidence and solve problems with a growth mindset.
Overall, Year 5 students have had a well-rounded term which has provided them with opportunities to develop a range of skills and knowledge.

Key Parent Function
Key Parent Function
Thank you to Lyn Worsley, clinical psychologist, registered nurse and Director of The Resilience Centre in Sydney for her thought provoking presentation at our Junior School Key Parent Function on Thursday evening.
Lyn gave us much food for thought when she posed idea that Boredom and Creativity go hand in hand.
She also helped us remember that parenting is a long term plan and to think of the people we want our children to be in 20 years’ time.
Her powerful idea that providing children with “the pause” before we leap in to assist them gives them the opportunity to work things out for themselves and grow in valuable skills they will need in life.
The next time we hear our children say they are bored, we will be able to smile knowing that they have a real opportunity for growth and creativity!

Year 4 | Mother & Daughter Camp
Year 4 | Mother & Daughter Camp
On Saturday 1 April 2023, Year 4 students travelled to The Tops Conference Centre Stanwell Tops for 2 days for Mother and Daughter camp.
The camp was a great opportunity for the girls to spend quality time with their friends, classmates and of course, their mothers. It was also a great opportunity for mums to get to know each other and their daughters’ friends.
The girls tested their resilience in many adventure activities, including rock climbing, the giant swing, giant wall and kite flying. The girls had to work together using problem-solving skills to support each other in the activities. Thankfully, at the end of a busy day Mums and daughters had a pamper session followed by a disco to celebrate all their hard work.
The students showed great courage and positivity by giving the activities a go, especially if they were not fond of heights! The staff members at The Tops conference centre commented on how supportive, friendly and polite the Tanagra students were.
Lastly, we celebrated Palm Sunday mass together and bid farewell to a great weekend of bonding. We are so thankful for our students, our mothers and the wonderful time they had together on camp.

Year 3 Art
Year 3 Art
Year 3 students have began Term 2 learning about the life and artworks of American artist Georgia O’Keeffe. Using oil pastels, saturated colour and blending techniques. Students created these beautiful cropped flowers inspired by her artwork.

GIVE Grow In Virtue Every day
GIVE Grow In Virtue Every day

The Virtue we are working on this week in the Junior School is Kindness.
Definition:
Kindness means treating other people nicely, thinking about what is good for them and respecting their thoughts, ideas and wishes. It might mean sharing with them, speaking nicely, being friendly or including them in your friendship groups or games. Think about how you would like to be treated, then treat others that way.
I am practicing kindness when I:
• Give attention to someone who is sad or needs help
• Do things that give others happiness
• Accept people who are different
• Take good care of animals
• Resist the temptation to be cruel.
Where does Kindness fit?
Love
·Forgiveness
· Compassion
· Empathy
· Charity
· Respect
· Friendliness
· Courtesy
· Kindness
· Patience
· Helpfulness
For older students:
😊What is something kind I have experienced this week?
😊What is my reaction if someone is unkind or harsh to me?
😊What is an act of kindness I could do today?

A very warm welcome back to our Tangara Secondary students who were a buzz last Wednesday, as we returned for yet another busy term. It was lovely to see the girls wearing their winter uniforms with pride and we encourage the girls to continue doing so.
Even though we have only had just under two weeks at school, we have had many event and activities to celebrate.
We started the term with a beautiful ANZAC Ceremony, where we were fortunate enough to have Major Bill Duncan, address us on this day. He reinforced the importance of the ANZAC spirit and shared his life experiences.
Last weekend it was fantastic to see so many Secondary girls involved in our school musical, Shrek Jr. The performances were outstanding and it was amazing to see so much talent on show...well done to all staff, students and parents involved in making the musical such a success!
Congratulations to our Year 7 ISDA Debating Team of Chelsy B, Margot B, Zara I and Jaena M and Yumin O, who have qualified for the Octos Rounds. We wish these girls all the best for the finals against MLC next Friday.
Good Luck to our Tangara Mock Trial Team who are preparing for their second round against St Maroun's next fortnight.
Archdale Debating is also to begin next fortnight and there are still some spaces available, particularly in the Year 8 teams, so if this is something your daughter would like to participate in, please let me know.
We wish all of our mothers a very Happy Mother's Day next weekend and we hope you can join us for our Mothers Day Mass and Morning Tea next Friday!
