A blessed moment in Tangara’s History
The long-awaited day of Wednesday, August 23rd, finally arrived, filling our school community with eager anticipation as we welcomed the presence of Monsignor Fernando Ocariz to Tangara. His visit proved to be a truly unforgettable and joyful occasion that has left a lasting impact on all of us.
Monsignor Ocariz shared with us messages that resonated deeply, marked by their simplicity, wisdom, and profound meaning. His gentle and fatherly demeanour graced our school community with a sense of spiritual enrichment. The insights he conveyed touched the hearts of our staff, students, class parents, and Tangara alumni alike.
Among the many invaluable messages, there is one that I wish to share with you here. During his interaction with our Secondary staff and students, Monsignor Ocariz emphasised the significance of unity. He articulated that unity within our school holds paramount importance—unity between parents and the school, unity among the staff and school leadership, unity among students, and unity among teachers. Monsignor Ocariz highlighted that true unity finds its source in our connection to God, our Father. It is a gift from God, bestowed to foster our harmonious coexistence, underpinned by affection, forgiveness, understanding, and a willingness to support one another. This unity stands as a testimony to the essence of Christian life.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Don Fernando for his unwavering prayers and steadfast support of Tangara throughout the years. Through every triumph and challenge, we find comfort in the knowledge that his prayers encompass our staff, students, and families. His role as a caring and devoted father figure, watching over us, gives us the reassurance that his prayerful support is a constant source of strength.
Let us continue to treasure the profound messages and blessings Monsignor Ocariz brought to our community during his visit. Together, let's nurture the unity he highlighted, allowing it to flourish and thrive within our school, guided by the wisdom he imparted. I look forward to sharing more of his messages and the various images and videos that captured his visit over the next coming weeks. In the meantime please go onto Tangara’s instagram page for the highlights of Monsignor Ocariz’s visit.
A Showcase of Tangara Talent
Congratulations to our Creative and Performing Arts staff and students for the spectacular Soiree evening last Friday evening. The Soiree showcased and celebrated the creative abilities of our senior Music and Art students, in particular the works being presented for HSC marking. It was a great opportunity for our parents, along with the rest of the school community to recognise the wide range of outstanding talent that is evident amongst our students at Tangara.
Special thanks to our Creative and Performing Arts staff who have devoted so much time and effort in supporting and preparing our students so well for their major works. We look forward to the continued flourishing of artistic excellence at Tangara.
The Gift of Grandparents
In celebration of our school's continued growth, we were delighted to host not one, but two Grandparents' Days at Tangara this year. On Thursday, we warmly welcomed the grandparents of our Infants students, and on Friday, we extended our hospitality and embraced the grandparents of our primary students. As always, these days were incredibly meaningful and held a special place in our hearts.
Having the pleasure of spending time with our beloved Tangara grandparents was truly an honour. Grandparents hold a unique and invaluable role, offering the gift of love that forms a cherished foundation for children—a connection to family history, a sense of belonging, and a broader perspective on life. As Pope Francis eloquently stated, "They remind us that old age is a gift and that grandparents are the link between generations, passing on the experience of life and faith to the young."
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our grandparents for gracing us with their love and presence this week and supporting the education and formation of their grandchildren.
Congratulations to our newly appointed 2024 Leadership Team
At Tangara, we lay the groundwork for a crucial life skill: leadership. It fills me with immense pride to consistently witness students from Prep to Year 12 embodying age-appropriate leadership qualities on numerous occasions. From the youngest to the eldest, our students impressively exhibit various leadership skills that reflect our values and ethos. This is evident when they hold themselves accountable, demonstrating a sense of responsibility, when they exhibit integrity through their actions, reflecting the honesty we value, when they harness their talents for the greater good, selflessly benefiting others, when they offer kindness and support to their peers, fostering a sense of unity, when they stand steadfast for what is right, even when it may not be the popular choice. Our students comprehend that the essence of leadership lies in service. Their service extends to our families, school community, and society as a whole. A true leader prioritises the well-being of others over personal gain and I am confident that the newly appointed Captains will continue to demonstrate leadership through service, commitment and the enduring pursuit of goodness. We congratulate the following students who form the 2024 leadership team and who officially take up their roles in Term 4:

Grandparents Day

It was a privilege to welcome our parents, special visitors and our wonderful grandparents to our Book Week and Grandparents Day this week.
Our event commenced with a Book Week parade showcasing the children’s favourite book characters. Your effort and creativity with costumes did not go unnoticed, and no doubt the children will remember this day until they too are grandparents. After our parade, the children ‘Wowed’ their guests with entertaining performances. Memories were captured at our photo booth and priceless artwork sold. Thank you for your generosity.

We often hear that schools are busy places; we definitely agree with this!
We have had some wonderfuloccasions over the last two weeks and at times like these, we really notice that we are part of a huge family community.
Science Week
You will find a very informative article on how the Junior School celebrated Science Week elsewhere in the Rust and Navy. A huge thank you to Mrs Byrne who was so instrumental in organising the Planetarium Incursion and to Mrs Crawford who gathered all the many varied materials that were needed for the experiments. Needless to say, the school was a buzz with hands-on learning. As usual the teachers went above and beyond expectations with their creativity in designing some very rich learning opportunities.
Mons. Ocariz Visit
Our school was blessed on Wednesday with a visit from Mons Orcariz. We were able to witness first-hand his tranquillity and spirituality. The girls in the Primary School formed a guard of honour, they held welcome signs they had made in the language of their family heritage. Mons Orcariz spoke to many girls about their signs and loved reading them. The Infants children sang a happy version of It's a Small Worldand we assured him of their prayers.
Grandparents Day
Always a highlight of the calendar. The girls were so excited to have their Grandparents join them at school. Thank you for coming and supporting our Innovation Fund by purchasing artwork at the Art Sale. We hope you enjoyed the concert and your time with us.
Book Week
Our library has been transformed into a thriving Book Fair this week. During Book Week we are able to spend one week focusing on Australian Children’s authors and illustrators and talk about cultivating the love of reading. Our library staff surprised us by dressing as a different book character every day this week.
Car Line
A reminder to please display your Family Name Card when you collect children in car line. It makes a huge difference to the smooth running of the operation.

GIVE Grow In Virtue Every day
GIVE Grow In Virtue Every day

The virtue the Junior School is working on is Forgiveness.
Definition:
Forgiveness means actively choosing not to hold someone’s negative actions or behaviour against them, even if you don't condone them. Even without an apology, forgiveness chooses to release resentment or anger and move on with life.
Why do we need it?
Forgiveness prevents us from being weighed down by negative emotions such as anger and irritation and allows us to release it in order not to carry offense against others. Understanding their point of view, even if you disagree, is a great way to show true value for others. Harbouring unforgiveness and bitterness will only make you feel miserable inside and hold you back from growth.
I am practicing forgiveness when I:
· Remember that everyone makes mistakes
· Take responsibility for my mistakes
· Correct my mistakes
· Accept someone’s apology without holding grudges
Where does Forgiveness fit?
Love
·Forgiveness
·Compassion
·Empathy
·Charity
·Respect
·Friendliness
·Courtesy
·Kindness
·Patience
·Helpfulness
For older students:
😊How do I react when people hurt or offend me?
😊How could forgiveness impact my life and others around me?
😊 Is there someone I need to forgive today (perhaps even myself)? What’s stopping me?

Science Week
Science Week

National Science Week represents Australia's yearly festivity of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), occurring throughout the month of August. Recently, our Infants and Junior School enthusiastically engaged in these celebrations. During this event, every grade dedicated an afternoon for our students to immerse themselves in a plethora of scientific activities highlighted by a special visit from Starr’s Planetarium where the students took a trip through our Solar System and onwards to the very edge of our Galaxy.

NSW Girls Teams Chess Challenge
NSW Girls Teams Chess Challenge
On Friday 18 August, Gabby Kim, Renee Pan and Ellie Alvir from Year 8, participated in the NSW Girls Teams Chess Challenge (Secondary) at the Sydney Academy of Chess in Burwood. It was an exciting experience and our supervisor, Mrs Labram helped us a lot.
We arrived on time, signed up and then the tournament began. Along the way, we made lots of friends and learned many different things, such as chess etiquette and good sportsmanship. It was a great experience and what made it even more thrilling, was when we came 2nd in the whole entire tournament.
Renee, a very experienced Chess player, helped us tremendously and taught us many different openings just before the matches began. She won all 5 of her games and Gabby won 3, which boosted our score and allowed us to place second, with a total of 9½ points. We made lots of friends, gained lots of experience and we became one of the most friendly and approachable groups.
A great big thanks to Mrs Labram, as without her, we would have never been able to participate in the tournament in the first place. She looked after us and encouraged us throughout the day. Thank you.

Celebrating Science Week in the Secondary School
Celebrating Science Week in the Secondary School
On Thursday 17th August, students in year 7 to 10 celebrated Science Week. Our students' creativity and enthusiasm truly shone as they completed various STEM activities. Here's a glimpse of the activities that made Science Week an unforgettable learning experience.
Year 7 students crafted their own water filtration systems using everyday materials, demonstrating a keen understanding of water purification methods. This hands-on project highlighted the importance of sustainability and resourcefulness.
Year 8 students learnt about the world of binary code by creating binary code bracelets. They not only learned about the binary system used by computers but also showcased their creativity by encoding a word that held personal significance.
Physics, engineering, and fun collided as the year 9 students designed intricate marble maze games. Using the principles of motion, gravity, and friction, they crafted engaging challenges that put their problem-solving skills to the test. These marble mazes showcased the intersection of science and entertainment.
The year 10 students became budding engineers by putting their skills to the test by designing and building wind-propelled cars. They applied their knowledge to construct cars that zoomed ahead with the power of the wind. It was inspiring to witness the teamwork that went into creating each car.
These STEM activities encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, creativity, and problem solving. It is through events like these that we nurture the scientists and inventors of tomorrow.
Thank you to our students for their enthusiastic participation.
