Welcome to Term 4
I reminded our students at assembly that the goal this term is to finish the year in true Tangara style - working hard until the very end and striving to do our personal best. The HSC examinations commenced last Wednesday and we certainly wish our Year 12 girls every success. The girls have worked extremely hard and we know that each girl will be striving to do her personal best in all her exams. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of our Year 12 girls – they are resilient and confident young women who will take the challenge of the exams in their stride.
Pray for Peace
As we commenced this term, our screens have been filled with the tragic news of unrest in Israel. Last Tuesday the Tangara community responded to the invitation by Cardinal Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, to hold a day of fasting and prayer. A short vigil was organised during lunch where we joined in solidarity praying for peace, justice and reconciliation in the middle east.
We reflect on the words of Pope Francis too during this time that “working toward peace must always be the aim of the Christian life” and that “peace is not a lofty ideal, but something first put into practice through concrete situations each day, through family life, in workplaces and among neighbours”.
Mobile Phone Ban in NSW Schools
There has been considerable media coverage lately regarding the NSW government's prohibition of mobile phone use in schools. At Tangara, this has been our policy for over a decade, aligning with our mission to cultivate an environment that is conducive to learning and fostering positive social interactions.
We appreciate your support in this significant endeavour. Our aim is to ensure that our students make the most of their time at school by avoiding unnecessary distractions, maintaining focus in the classroom to achieve academic excellence, and promoting physical activity and healthy social interactions. While we acknowledge the relevance of mobile phones and other technological devices in our students' lives, we also have a responsibility to guide them in navigating the world of technology by setting clear boundaries to ensure that other aspects of their development are not neglected.
World Teachers Day and 2023 HSC Markers
Next Friday 27 October we celebrate World Teahcer’s Day. I hope our teachers feel valued and appreciated each day for the outstanding work they do on a daily basis with our students. It’s a privilege to be working alongside exceptional professionals who dedicate themselves to not only teaching our students but striving to be exemplary role models for our students too.
I would like to acknowledge and congratulate the following teachers who once again have been selected to participate in HSC marking. This is a great professional opportunity that benefits not just our staff but of course our school community as well.

We are approaching All saints day on November 1st. We are very aware of it because Halloween ads and prep is all around the place. For us Catholics is a feast of hope and joy that puts before our eyes our call to holiness. As Pope Benedict XVI taught:
"Behold the meaning of today's solemnity: Gazing upon the luminous example of the saints the great desire to be like the saints is awakened in us; happy to live near to God, in his light, in the great family of the friends of God. Being a saint means living close to God, living in his family. And this is the vocation of all of us, vigorously reaffirmed by the Second Vatican Council, and on this day brought to our attention in a solemn way."
It is a day of hope in which we are inspired by the millions of anonymous saints who have left behind on this earth a furrow of hope in the action of God in their lives. Yes, God is at work in our hearts and through us, he continues his work of making people happy here on earth. And how can I become a saint? Benedict answers:
"But how can we become saints, friends of God? An initial response to this question is this: To be saints it is not necessary to perform extraordinary deeds and works, nor is it necessary to possess exceptional charisms. But this only tells us what sainthood is not. The positive answer is that to become a saint it is above all necessary to listen to Jesus and then to follow him and not lose heart in the face of difficulties."
Listen to Jesus. It is a good opportunity to think if we have time in our day to listen to Him in prayer. Even, we can think being helped in building that conversation with him daily. There is a Spotify show called 10 minutes with Jesus in which different priests help to pray with the Gospel of the day. Maybe we can give it a go.

Year 3 Navy
Last term, 3 Navy participated in shared inquiry discussions relating to our novel study. Students were able to discuss and debate many key points in the book. Every student had the opportunity to: take notes, question, comment and argue points regarding the stories studied. This term Year 3 visited the Seymore Centre to enjoy a live show all about science. The ‘Alphabet of Awesome Science’ show was filled with new vocabulary and mind-blowing experiments. The students experienced everything as they were seated in the front rows from: water spray, rice crispy attacks, leaf blower strength and bubbles galore.

The first two weeks of term have gone by in a blink! Our students have settled in very well to the new term and seem ready to embrace the learning opportunities ahead of them.
One Million Children Praying the Rosary Campaign
We have joined tens of thousands of children from around the world this week in taking part in the One Million Children Praying the Rosary Campaign. The website explains: The aim of this prayer initiative is first to show that the trusting prayer of children can fly like an arrow straight to the heart of God and consequently has great influence. How powerful then is the prayer of the Rosary when prayed by children for peace and unity within families, within their own nation and in the whole world!
Tangara Family Spirit
Our Primary girls have been praying every day for their “big sisters” in Yr 12 who are doing the HSC. Each girl has a small photograph on their desk of one of the Yr 12 girls to help them remember to pray for them. The family spirit at our school is so special.
Incursion and Excursion
Many classes have already had the opportunity to attend incursions and excursions this term. A huge thank you to the teachers and parent helpers who accompanied the girls at these times.
Colour Explosion!
Mrs Denahy our Art Teacher has done it again! Our Primary building is a joy to walk through with such a lovely variety of artworks displayed. We really have some talented students.
Generosity and Social Action
A special mention to Jasmine H in Year 5 for taking the initiative to raise money for Health Care in Timor- Leste. Jasmin will be one of our Giving Girls Social Action Group. More details to follow!

GIVE Grow In Virtue Every day
GIVE Grow In Virtue Every day

The Virtue we have been focussing on in the Junior School is Determination.
Definition:
Determination is the strength to see something through till the end with our giving up or losing heart. Having determination does not mean you never feel discouraged, have moments of doubt or fear, or face adversity. It means pressing on despite these obstacles.
I am practicing determination when I:
· Believe what I am doing is important
· Set goals for myself
· Focus my full attention on what I am doing
· Resist distractions
· Keep going even if it gets difficult
· Ask for help when I need it
· Finish what I start
Where does Determination fit?
Self Mastery
·Self discipline
·Focus
·Persistence
·Orderliness
·Determination
·Perseverance
·Stickability
For older students:
😊Do I push through to finish a task or get frustrated and give up when things don’t go my way?
😊When was a time I displayed determination? How did it make me feel?
😊 Is there anything that I regret quitting? Can I take it up again and finish it?

REAL The Science of Forgiveness
REAL The Science of Forgiveness

By Aashita Khosla Yr 9 and Miss Alvir
In our first REAL lesson this term, we began an introduction to the importance of forgiveness. Collectively as a class, we began a mind-map on our idea of forgiveness. This was followed with many discussions on our personal experiences with forgiveness and where we have displayed it in our lives. This REAL lesson taught us that forgiveness is an essential and beautiful character strength that we can apply in our lives. Letting go of a grudge or the anger we hold towards somebody else may be difficult. However, forgiveness allows us to let go of the resentment we hold and simply allow ourselves to be free. We discovered that forgiveness gives us a sense of peace within ourselves and allows us to build healthy relationships with our loved ones.
What the Science says…
Research findings on the benefits of the strength of forgiveness found apologies promote forgiveness.
Research shows that there is a substantial correlation between forgiveness and lower stress, lower anxiety, heart health, lower pain perception and higher overall happiness.
Forgiveness can contribute to productive interpersonal relationships, thriving teamwork, job satisfaction, personal morale, innovative problem-solving, a sense of flexibility when facing changes, and productivity.
The truth is that forgiveness is more powerful than you might think. Just like with anything in life, there are costs to your choices. Staying angry, resentful, and vengeful comes at a price. All these feelings can have a detrimental impact on your physical and emotional health as well as your relationships (Seybold et al., 2001; Gordon et al., 2009).
Psychologically, when people reported higher levels of forgiveness, they also tended to report better health habits and decreased depression, anxiety, and anger levels.
"Forgiveness doesn't excuse their behavior. Forgiveness prevents their behavior from destroying your heart"― Hemant Smarty
Welcome back to Term 4
Welcome back to Term 4

It is hard to believe that Term 4 is already well underway, with the first fortnight already completed!
This term will be jam packed again with Yearly Examinations, Excursions, Camps, Community Service, Co-Curricular Activities and of course our Presentation Night.
We also continue to pray for our Year 12 girls as they sit for their HSC Exams.
Our current Year 11's have now moved into their Year 12 classrooms, as they now embark on their final year of schooling. They were handed out their Jersey's last week, which they have enjoyed wearing each day since (see attached photos).
Congratulations to Olivia S in Year 9 who has qualified for Nationals in Swimming in the 400m Freestyle. We wish her all the best for this competition next year!
The countdown is on in Secondary with only 33 more school days left this term. The girls are encouraged to try their personal best inside and outside the classroom for the remainder of the term!

One hour of Study = One hour of Prayer
One hour of Study = One hour of Prayer
Saint Josemaría taught that "an hour of study … is an hour of prayer" when it is done with a supernatural motive and offered to God with love.
As a way to show our solidarity with those suffering through the war in the Holy Land the Secondary students are taking on the pray for peace in the Middle East study=prayerchallenge! We have encouraged the girls to transform their many hours of study and work into prayer for peace!
How to live the "Golden Hour" of study = prayer?
Follow these three steps!
1. Ready- be intentional - set an intention (supernatural motive), imagine who and what you are praying for. Write it down. Be aware that you may not "feel" like studying but you are making a choice to want to study for this intention.
2.Set- set up your study area so that you can focus and study well. Turn your phone off or put it away. Turn the music off or put on some classical music. Turn your computer off if you don't actually need it to study. Have all the equipment you need to study. Yes, you can check the fridge one more time but once you sit down don't get up again.
3. Go!- Set the timer and go for it! 1 hour study = 1 hour of prayer!
Try and do it well- which doesn't mean perfect. It means studying/working the best that you can!
