Twilight Markets
The Twilight Markets were a spectacular way to conclude the year! There was an abundant choice of great food, exquisite treats, rides, fabulous entertainment and let’s not forget the highlight of the evening, the endless display of amazing fireworks that lit up Cherrybrook and the surrounding suburbs. The twilight markets epitomised the essence of Tanagra - a beautiful, unified and faith-filled community. It was great catching up with many of you on the day who echoed these sentiments, and I even had members of the public and stall holders who commented on the wonderful sense of community that is so evident at Tangara.
Thank you to all who joined us on Saturday evening. Special thanks to Ailleen Bernado and her committee who worked tirelessly and whose leadership, dedication and enthusiasm was largely behind the success of the event. I am also very appreciative of the assistance and support of Mr Mark Sullivan (PARED’s COO), our Maintenance Team, our Admin Staff, Music Department and our endless number of volunteers. This event clearly could not have taken place without the efforts of our generous community.
Year 6 Graduation
Last Friday evening we enjoyed our Year 6 Graduation Mass and Dinner. It was a wonderful opportunity to give thanks and celebrate all of our girl’s achievements throughout their Primary years at Tangara. We look forward to continuing the important partnership between home and school as the girls transition into Secondary, helping every student to work towards achieving their best and becoming the best version of themselves. Thank you to the Class Parents - Mr and Mrs Bozzi, Mr and Mrs McAuley and Mr and Mrs Rahi for the meticulous organisation of the event.
Exams - What can we learn?
Feelings of relief and elation are often experienced at the end of the exam period. Congratulations to all our students from Years 5-10 who completed their end of year exams last week. This week the girls will receive their results. As always, the focus should be on effortrather than results. We encourage each student to be honest in her own assessment of exam preparation and results and to learn from this experience. Asking herself how well did I prepare? What can I do differently next time? What measures will I put in place to tackle exams more effectively next year? These are just a few of the questions that may help your daughter in her self assessment of her exam performance, and to help her to track her own personal progress, ensuring that the goal is always about achieving her personal best.
Presentation Day
A great deal of planning has gone into our end of year Christmas Concert for our Infants students on Monday 2 December in Yarra Hall and our Presentation Evening Ceremonies on Wednesday 4 December at the Concourse Chatswood - 5.30pm for the Junior School and 7.30pm for the Secondary School. Details were emailed to parents earlier this term. We look forward to acknowledging and celebrating our student’s achievements for 2024.
Gratitude
As we approach the end of the academic year, many of us may be feeling a little weary. However, it’s important to pause and reflect on the many blessings we have experienced throughout 2024. Gratitude is not only a beautiful virtue but also a transformative one. Research shows that grateful young people experience more positive emotions, a stronger sense of hope and trust, and deeper connections with their families, schools, and communities. Gratitude also helps reduce stress and is linked to better academic performance.
The most effective way to teach gratitude is for parents and teachers to model it. We often take for granted the simplest yet most significant blessings: a warm bed, friendship, and family. Life itself is a precious gift from God, and those who truly recognise this are often the ones who find the greatest joy in it.
As we draw closer to Christmas, let us reflect on how we can share these wonderful gifts from God with those who are less fortunate. At the same time, let’s keep in mind the abundance of blessings in our own lives and give thanks for all we have received.

On Sunday we will celebrate the last feast of the liturgical year: Jesus Christ, King of the universe. It brings to us the reality that Jesus Christ, that baby who is going to be born on Christmas and seems hopeless, will become our loving Judge. In the words of Benedict XVI:
"Today’s Gospel insists precisely on the universal kingship of Christ the Judge, with the stupendous parable of the Last Judgment, which St Matthew placed immediately before the Passion narrative (25: 31-46). The images are simple, the language is popular, but the message is extremely important: it is the truth about our ultimate destiny and about the criterion by which we will be evaluated. “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me” (Mt 25: 35) and so forth. Who does not know this passage? It is part of our civilization. It has marked the history of the peoples of Christian culture: the hierarchy of values, the institutions, the multiple charitable and social organizations. In fact, the Kingdom of Christ is not of this world, but it brings to fulfilment all the good that, thank God, exists in man and in history. If we put love for our neighbour into practice in accordance with the Gospel message, we make room for God’s dominion and his Kingdom is actualized among us. If, instead, each one thinks only of his or her own interests, the world can only go to ruin."
It is consoling for us to already know the standards by which we are going to be judged. Our Lord Jesus is like an upside down school teacher who tells us the exam questions beforehand. We already know the questions of the exam. He wants us to have a HD in his subject: Love. And even he gives to us that precious gift of confession by which we can have a mock up exam of that last judgment anytime.

It’s hard to believe we are nearing the end of Term 4.
Our Prep, Kindergarten, and Year 1 children are deeply engaged in their learning while eagerly anticipating the festive season. The excitement is building as we rehearse for our Infants Christmas Concert, which we can’t wait to share with our families.
In the spirit of Christmas, Baby Jesus has been receiving heartfelt letters from our Kindergarten and Year 1 children. Each child has written a prayer for someone in need or a special intention for the world. These prayers are being placed in our manger letterbox, which will be moved to the chapel on Monday. There, they will be offered up during daily Mass, spreading hope and love this Christmas season.

This week and next we’re heading toward the final stretch of the term - and the year! Last Wednesday, the Junior School Campus was buzzing with excitement as we welcomed new faces for the day. At the same time, our Year 6 students participated in their Year 7 Orientation, which included the special moment of meeting their buddies for 2025.
It was a very productive week for our Stage 3 students. On Friday, they attended a session presented by Meg McClintock, focusing on fostering a positive body image and celebrating the diversity of body shapes and sizes. This session will be especially impactful for our Year 6 students, who ended the week with their Graduation Mass and dinner - an important milestone for these girls as they prepare to transition to high school. It was a meaningful and celebratory occasion, marking both their achievements and the start of an exciting new chapter in their lives.
Excursions
Last Monday, our Year 4 and Year 6 students visited Manly Beach for a Surf Awareness course run by SEA Australia. The girls learned to identify rips, practice wading and surf negotiation, run safely on the ocean floor, dive effectively, navigate waves, body surf, and develop foam board paddling skills, including catching waves and rip escapes. Despite the grey skies, the girls had an enjoyable and enriching experience, demonstrating resilience and enthusiasm while gaining valuable surf safety skills. In Australia, where the ocean is such a significant part of our lives, lessons like this are essential for equipping students with water safety skills, building their confidence, and ensuring they can stay safe while enjoying the water.
Looking ahead
Our Stage 3 students are looking forward to attend a Cyber Safety presentation on Monday. This will be delivered by Senior Constable Glenn Clark, Youth Engagement Officer for The Hills and Hawkesbury.
Presentation Evening
We look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students during our Junior School Presentation Evening, for a 5:30pm start at the Concourse in Chatswood.
GIVE
As we approach the end of the term, we remind the girls of the importance of continuing to grow in virtue each day. These final weeks present an opportunity to reflect on the values and virtues they've developed over the year, with an emphasis on practicing Honesty and Gratitude. Honesty inspires them to act with integrity, while Gratitude invites them to appreciate the many blessings in their lives. As we prepare for the season of Advent, we hope these virtues will guide the girls in fostering a spirit of thankfulness, reflection, and kindness toward others.
The final virtue we are looking at in the Junior School is..
Definition:
Honesty is clear and precise communication without the intention of misleading or using double meanings. It is a key virtue taught to us as children but just as vital to us growing up. The meaning of integrity is similar: acting in an honest, fair and honourable way and always doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
Why do we need it?
Without truth we can neither think clearly nor make good choices. When we are not honest with ourselves, we can make big life mistakes.
I am practicing honesty when I:
· Say what I mean and mean what I say
· Make promises that I keep
· Admit my mistakes
· Refuse to cheat, steal and lie
· Tell the truth tactfully
· Am true to myself and so what I know is right
For older students:
😊Do I ever tell white lies or act differently around different groups of people?
😊Is there any area in my life right now where I am hiding my true self?
😊 What do you think it means to: speak the truth?

Year 5 Rust
Year 5 Rust
This term in 5 Rust, we have seen the wonderful connection between English and Science as the girls have been engaged in writing and following procedures. The girls have been honing their writing skills by creating detailed procedural texts that guide their classmates through various exciting experiments.
One of the highlights was the delightful activity of making fairy bread, where students not only wrote the steps but also followed their own instructions to create this fun and tasty treat! This hands-on experience reinforced the importance of clear writing and the need for precise steps in a procedure.
In addition to culinary creativity, we explored the fascinating world of science with surface tension experiments. The girls conducted an engaging activity involving pepper and dish soap, observing the effects of surface tension in action. They documented their findings, which enhanced their understanding of scientific inquiry and report writing.
Through these activities, the girls have not only developed their procedural writing skills but also deepened their understanding of scientific concepts.

Year 10 RYDA excursion
Year 10 RYDA excursion

On 18 November, our Year 10 students took part in the invaluable RYDA road safety program. This initiative equips young people with the knowledge, tools, and motivation to become responsible and proactive road users. I deeply value the RYDA program for its role in fostering habits and mindsets that empower students to make safe choices as both drivers and passengers throughout their lives.
Throughout the day, students participated in six impactful workshops. One standout session, "Speed and Stopping," demonstrated the vital link between speed, reaction time, and stopping distance, using practical activities to highlight the real-world consequences of driving decisions.
Other workshops included "Road Choices," which explored the significance of responsible decision-making, and "Mind Matters," focusing on how factors like emotions, stress, and fatigue can affect driving behaviour. In "Crash Investigators," students analysed the causes and effects of traffic incidents, reinforcing the need for accountability on the road.
The "Drive SOS" session provided strategies to minimise distractions and stay attentive while driving, and "The 'I' in Drive" emphasised the importance of personal responsibility and positive peer influence in promoting road safety.
These sessions were both educational and empowering, equipping students with crucial life skills and insights. It was truly inspiring to witness their engagement, curiosity, and thoughtful contributions throughout the day.
