Welcome
Welcome
Welcome to the Tangara Community. It is a privilege to be commencing this journey with you.
Our hope is that you and your children enjoy the Tangara family experience, where each student is personally known and supported to achieve their personal best in an atmosphere of love and respect, becoming the person God has called them to be. We hope you and your child have a wonderful year of growth, learning and discovery at Tangara.
Our Mission
Our Mission
Mission
Tangara works in partnership with parents to form each child’s character, educating for personal and academic excellence. We challenge our students to live a life of faith and lead change for a more just and humane society.
Vision
Our vision is a happy and vibrant School, highly regarded as a centre of excellence, where every child is encouraged to be the very best person they can be. Parents, staff and students work as a united team for the pursuit of character and academic success, with a commitment to service and a life of faith.
Values
At Tangara, we base our school’s ethos on the Christian virtues. These principles shape our teaching and our interactions with staff, parents, and students. We believe that students learn best from positive role models, not just words.
We strive to create genuine relationships, where actions align with values and an environment that encourages doing one’s best while recognizing that mistakes are part of learning and growth.
- Faith - lived in daily life
- Hope - hearts open to happiness
- Charity - self-giving, love of God and kindness towards others
- Justice - social responsibility and fairness
- Wisdom - discernment in one's choices
- Fortitude - resilience and perseverance in the pursuit of what is good
- Temperance - balance and self-mastery
Tangara Shield
Tangara Shield
- The Shield, an oval shape, displays a towering gum against a midnight sky.
- The eucalypt, which invariably grows straight and stands tall, symbolises for us the way in which our children must grow – AD SUMMAM VIRTUTEM – “Towards the fullness of virtue”.
- The tree has many leaves “so that all birds can come and settle in its branches”. No one is to be excluded from the honest pursuit of the true and the good.
- Although a robust specimen, the tree is alone, the first to grow in the rich, red earth where there is still much to be done. Society awaits the sowing of the good seed of real knowledge and wisdom to fill the arid waste of ignorance. The sincere practise of virtue aided by faith promises a harvest of many good people capable of changing things for the better.
- The land is Australia, and the time is now, the eve of a new era. The Southern Cross which alone illuminates the sparse landscape is amid the darkness, like that other Cross, a sure and saving guide.

Sports
Sports
One of the aims of physical education at Tangara is to promote participation in sport for all students. Students in Year 3 to Year 10 are expected to participate in at least one semester of sport for a year for Tangara. Sport is important for our girls because it promotes physical and mental health. It is also an effective means of developing character through virtue:
charity is putting others before ourselves; persistence can be learnt through training;
humility must be part of victory;
moderation is to be in control of our passions and having self-mastery;
sacrifice is learnt through teamwork;
good-sportsmanship is treating others with dignity and respect.
- Students can deepen friendships with peers, parents and staff through participation in sport.
