From the Principal
Last Friday marked World Teachers’ Day - a moment to reflect on and appreciate the vital role teachers play in the lives of our students. Whether in the classroom, on the playground, or behind the scenes, their dedication helps shape not only academic outcomes but also the character and confidence of each child. The day offered an opportunity for our community to acknowledge the care, patience, and professionalism our educators bring to their work. Moments like these remind us of the strength of the partnership between home and school, and the importance of supporting those who guide and inspire learning every day.
Our Year 5 and 6 students recently participated in the Maths Olympiad , a national competition designed to challenge and extend mathematically talented students through problem-solving and strategic thinking. We’re proud to share that Tangara achieved outstanding results across both the Maths Games and Olympiad events. Gauri K received a medal for the highest individual score in our team, while 14 students earned pins for placing in the top 10% nationally, and 5 students received patches for placing in the top 25%. Our team’s overall performance placed us in the top 10% of schools nationally, earning a Team Plaque for Outstanding Achievement. What an incredible result and a testament to the hard work and enthusiasm of our young mathematicians!
Tangara’s Junior School basketball teams have had an outstanding season, with both our Division 2 and Division 3 teams achieving remarkable success in the Basketball NSW Primary Tournament . The Division 2 team placed 2nd, while the Division 3 team took out 1st place - a fantastic result for our talented players from Years 3 to 6. Their strong performances have earned both teams a spot at the upcoming State Championships, which will be held next Tuesday and Wednesday at Hills Basketball Stadium. In the Secondary School, our 16s team also made it to the State Championships , while the Opens team were runners-up in their tournament - an impressive effort, even though they did not progress to the state level. We wish all our teams the very best as they represent Tangara with pride and determination!
As we approach the final weeks of term, many of our students are deep in preparation for upcoming exams or beginning to receive assessment results. This period is a valuable reminder of the importance of consistent effort, thoughtful revision, and a balanced approach to learning. Exams not only test knowledge but also help build resilience, discipline, and character - qualities that serve students well beyond the classroom. For our Year 12 students, this Friday marks the completion of their HSC. It’s a significant milestone, and many are now looking forward to the exciting experiences and opportunities that lie ahead. We’re especially looking forward to celebrating with them and their families at the Year 12 Formal next Thursday.
Today I had the pleasure of meeting with five pre-service teachers from universities across NSW as they concluded their practicum at our school. Their energy, enthusiasm, and dedication to the teaching profession were truly inspiring and a reminder of the bright future ahead for education. They spoke warmly of their time at Tangara, highlighting the genuine care, professionalism, and sense of community they experienced among our staff and students. We wish them every success as they continue their journey to becoming the next generation of educators.

From the Chaplain
Each November, the Church turns her gaze toward the mystery of the “last things” - death, judgment, heaven, purgatory, and hell. Like a wise and loving mother, she does not do this to frighten her children, but to awaken in them the hope of eternal life and the realism of faith. In the cycle of the liturgical year, this month becomes a gentle school of truth: we remember those who have gone before us, and we are invited to live each day in the light of eternity.
In the communion of saints, our prayers for the dead are not mere gestures of memory. They are acts of love that unite earth and heaven, time and eternity. When parents teach their children to pray for their deceased grandparents, to light a candle, or to visit a cemetery, they are opening young hearts to the mystery of communion that death cannot destroy. Such simple acts are catechesis in its purest form - introducing the young to the reality of suffering and death through tenderness and faith.
It is also through caring for the elderly and the sick that children learn that love is stronger than decay, that dignity does not vanish with weakness. In accompanying the frail, the Christian family teaches that every stage of life - until the final breath - is sacred and worthy of reverence.
Let November, therefore, be for our families a time of remembrance and renewal. Parents, by word and example, can help their children discover that the end of earthly life is not the end of love. The Christian who believes in the resurrection walks serenely, even amid tears, because he knows that death is not a wall, but a door. To walk with our children through that door of faith is the most beautiful inheritance we can offer them.

From the Infants School
It was a joy to be part of the Infants All Saints’ Day Parade last Friday. The children have been learning about the lives of the saints and sharing their reflections on their favourite saint. They discovered that All Saints Day is a time to celebrate both the well-known saints, who modelled kindness, faith, and love, and the many unknown saints who are equally inspiring.
With special guests joining us for the occasion, the children proudly paraded as their chosen saints. A heartfelt thank you to all our parents for supporting their children with such creative and thoughtful costumes, which brought the spirit of the day to life.

Year 1 Excursion
Year 1 Excursion
As part of our Geography and Science studies, our Year 1 students attended an excursion to Bobbin Head in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Led by Ranger Jamie, the students explored local bushland, learned about native wildlife, and participated in hands-on environmental activities. They discussed the places they live in and belong to, and examined a variety of natural environments including wetlands, water lagoons, bushland, and beaches.

Our primary classrooms have been buzzing with creativity and learning. From inquiry and research tasks to WRAP and Novel Studies, the students have been producing some lovely work.

GIVE
GIVE
This week in the Junior School we are focussing on the virtue of Self Mastery.
Definition:
People who have self mastery see the bigger picture and are willing to delay instant gratification for long term fulfillment. Developing this virtue often means doing the exact opposite of what you naturally feel like doing.
Why do we need it?
Those people who live with self mastery tend to lead happier and more fulfilled lives because they finish things and reap the benefits of a job well done.
I am practicing self mastery when I:
- Use detachment so my emotions won’t control me
- Speak and act calmly when I am hurt or angry
- Get things done in an orderly and efficient way
- Create routines for myself
- Do what is expected without people having to remind me
- Do things on time
Where does Self Mastery fit?
Self Mastery:
Self discipline
Focus
Persistence
Orderliness
Determination
Perseverance
Stickability
Commitment
For older students:
😊Do I consider myself a person in control of their decisions?
😊How do I resist temptations?
😊 What is an area in my life that I could be more moderate or self controlled?

Year 2 - Back in Time!
Year 2 - Back in Time!
As part of our History Unit, Year 2 went to the Australian Pioneer Village to experience life in the past. We explored the olden day village, pumped water from a well, washed clothes with a washboard and churned our own butter! The tractor ride was a fun way to see all the farm animals before seeing sheep shearing in the barn. The old school house and the jail were a highlight for the Year 2 students. It was such a fun way to learn about life in the past. We were all very grateful to come home to running water, toilets in our homes, electricity and technology - we have a new appreciation for all our modern day luxuries!

Creative and Performing Arts
Live At The Library Returns!
Live At The Library Returns!
Live at the Library has once again filled our school with the sound of music, providing students with a space to share their talents in both performance and composition. Held in the welcoming setting of the wonderful library, the event featured a diverse range of musical styles and instruments, highlighting the creativity and confidence of our young musicians.
The relaxed and supportive environment encouraged students to perform with authenticity and joy, while inspiring their peers to explore their own musical potential.
With its growing popularity, Live at the Library will continue as a regular event, offering students more opportunities throughout the year to showcase their musical achievements and celebrate the vibrant culture of music at Tangara.

Captains' Corner
Hi everyone, my name is Syona Nishant and I am honoured to serve as Tangara’s School Vice Captain for 2026 alongside Liana and the leadership team.
A little bit about myself: I enjoy school, spending time with my friends, being active through sports and creating new meaningful relationships. I am a Cadet Corporal in the Australian Air Force Cadets which means I organise activities for younger cadets, learn survival skills and I love flying planes. My goal for this year is to give back to Tangara what this supportive community has given me: life-long friendships and unforgettable experiences that I will cherish forever.
Over the past week, we have started a few very exciting initiatives including Live at the Library, Interhouse and Fun Friday which aim to foster school spirit within the grades. By continuing this momentum, 2026 will definitely be a year to remember. Our motto ‘Take On the World’ represents key values of courage, service and integrity embodied in every girl’s words and actions.
As exam season approaches, it is crucial to maintain a healthy work-life balance and take it slowly. Try shifting your mindset from “Do or die” to “I gave 100%.” Remember, you have your support and confidence from your family, friends and teachers. If you need any guidance or exam tips, feel free to approach myself or any Year 12 student. We have got your back!
Thank you.

Teaching & Learning
Every year, our Stage 3 students are provided with an opportunity to work alongside their peers in targeted Problem Solving sessions. These sessions are made possible through the dedication of our Stage 3 teachers; Michelle Stebbing, Michaela Rajakariar, Jessica Cauchi, and Jayne van Koeverden with the support of our Diverse Learning team; Angela Hacker and Jessica Kwak.
In these sessions, students explore rich mathematical challenges, think creatively, and build confidence as problem solvers. We were thrilled to see this learning come to life through our Maths Olympiad team, made up of 23 enthusiastic Year 5 and Year 6 students, who achieved outstanding results, placing in the top 10% across Australasia and receiving several awards recognising their effort and achievement.
Overall, our Maths Olympiad team placed 44th out of 173 schools across Australasia, an impressive result that earned the team a school award for high achievement.
A special congratulations goes to:
Our medal winner Gauri Kallimath, who received a perfect score, an exceptional accomplishment!
Our pin winners Isla Iglesia, Charlotte Wang Park, Zahra Chen, Olivia Liu, Catherine Kim, Tiffany Ye, Myra Kaul, Sarah D’Cruz, Anisha Premshanth, Ivy Niu, Mila Jalalaty, Theresa Sung and Alayna Leung for achieving a score in the Top 10%.
Our patch winners Mari Sun, Isabella Sammut, Elizabeth Pillai and Siyona Somasundaram for achieving a score in the Top 25%.
We are so proud of every student who took part and congratulate those who received individual recognition for their effort and achievement.
Maths Games with APSMO (Australian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads)
Unlike the Maths Olympiad, students participating in the Maths Games do not compete against teams from other schools. The primary focus of the program is to build students’ confidence and encourage them to develop their problem-solving skills in a supportive, non-competitive environment.
This year, a number of Year 5 and Year 6 students took part in the Maths Games, with several earning a special award for placing in the top 6 out of 26 students in their team. We congratulate the following girls Aaliyah Ralhan, Taxi Zhang, Serena Semaan, Lucille Fahd, Cayla Zhu and Alicia Zeon for earning this recognition, and extend our congratulations to all students who participated, celebrating their effort, enthusiasm, and determination.
2025 INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS AND ASSESSMENTS FOR SCHOOLS (ICAS)
This year, our school facilitated the ICAS English, Mathematics and Science assessments over three days in Term 3 for students who elected to take part in this opportunity. These assessments provided a wonderful chance for students to extend themselves academically and take on the personal challenge of competing in an international assessment.
We were delighted to have over 40 students participate in the English and Mathematics assessments and more than 20 students in Science across Years 2–6. It is a pleasure to announce that many of our students achieved Merit, Credit, Distinction, and High Distinction awards across the grades.
