Supporting Girls to Flourish
Recent research into the wellbeing of girls highlights the significant and often competing pressures they face in today’s world. Psychologists describe this as a “Triple Bind” - the expectation that girls should be compassionate and relational, high-achieving in their studies and activities, and at the same time present themselves with confidence and ease. When combined, these expectations can create an unrealistic standard that leaves many young people feeling overwhelmed.
At Tangara, this reinforces the importance of our mission to form the whole person - intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. We seek to create an environment where students are valued not for perfection, but for their character, their effort and their growth. By promoting deep learning, fostering genuine friendships and maintaining strong partnerships with families, we help our students develop a secure sense of identity and purpose. In this environment, girls are better equipped to meet challenges with resilience, confidence and hope.
Excellence in Action
The past fortnight has been filled with outstanding achievements, with students showcasing their talents, teamwork and dedication across a range of academic, sporting and community activities. Here are some highlights:
Da Vinci Decathlon
Congratulations to all our students from Years 5 to 11 who competed in the highly competitive Da Vinci Decathlon, representing Tangara among over 80 schools across the state. The event challenges students to think critically, work collaboratively, and solve complex problems across a range of disciplines. We placed in several categories and are incredibly proud of the effort, creativity, and teamwork displayed by our teams.
Northwest Schools Primary Basketball Challenge
A huge congratulations to two of our Primary basketball teams who both won their Grand Finals, and a third team who placed second. Their teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship were truly commendable.
Hills Zone - Cross Country and Netball
Both our Primary and Secondary students demonstrated outstanding commitment, determination and sportsmanship at the Hills Zone Cross Country. Our Primary team was named Girls Champion School, while our Secondary team achieved Girls Champion School Runner-up. We are also delighted that a significant number of students have progressed to CIS - an excellent achievement.
We also congratulate our Secondary Hills Zone Netball team on their success in winning their semi-final, reflecting their teamwork, resilience and competitive spirit.
NSW PSSA Basketball
Congratulations to Nicole. G and Angelique. C on their outstanding performances at the NSW PSSA Basketball event, where both students achieved first place in their respective divisions. We are especially proud of Nicole’s selection in the state team - an exceptional achievement that reflects both talent and sustained commitment. Both students represented the school with great pride, demonstrating impressive skill and sportsmanship.
Mock Trial – Round 2
Our Mock Trial team has made an excellent start to the competition, winning their first round. Their advocacy, critical thinking and teamwork were on full display in the courtroom, reflecting both their preparation and growing confidence in a highly challenging setting.
Hills Relay for Life
Thank you to all students and families who supported Tangara’s participation in the Hills Relay for Life. Congratulations to Marice D for completing the highest number of laps and to the team for achieving first place overall and once again being named best decorated tent. Together, our community raised over $13,000 to support those affected by cancer - a powerful expression of our commitment to service.
Each of these achievements reflects what is possible when students challenge themselves, work together, and strive for excellence in all they do. Well done to all.
Looking ahead
We have a number of special events coming up in the life of our school. Next Thursday 5 June at 10.30am, we warmly invite all our parents and Tangara graduates to join us for our Eucharistic Procession, followed by Mass. We are honoured to welcome Bishop Vincent Long, who will lead us in this deeply meaningful celebration.
