Welcome to 2023
Welcome to 2023

A warm welcome to the 2023 school year. In particular, we welcome our 120 new students and 80 new families to the Tangara community. It was wonderful to be able to catch up with all our new families at a lovely Cocktail and Canapes afternoon on Saturday 4 February and all our families at last Friday evenings Term 1 Key Parent Function. Your attendance is testimony to the importance you place on your child’s education and the importance of the partnership between home and school on which Tangara is founded.
I hope you found the KPF helpful, meeting your child’s teacher and learning about the academic and pastoral procedures for their class in 2023. I will be writing to you shortly about one of our strategic priorities this year, that is, Tangara’s Innovation Fund. Our goal is to ensure that our academic offerings and achievements, our focus on personal formation, wellbeing and our priority of maintaining our Christian ethos and growing and maintaining strong partnerships, is matched by innovative and robust development. Your support and generosity is much appreciated.
Elevate Study Skills Sessions
This week Elevate Education began its series of workshops for Years 7 to 12. Elevate has researched the study habits of thousands of past students. Our girls will learn the skills and secrets they need to maximise their marks. Teaching these habits early, and reinforcing them, equips our girls with the confidence and skills they need to achieve their personal best throughout Secondary, to the HSC and beyond. The skills are being reinforced by the mentors, who are helping the girls set realistic, but challenging goals for Term 1. Parents, it always helps when you show your interest with a follow up conversation with your child.
Virtues Program - GIVE (Primary) and REAL (Secondary)
And there is lots more to talk about with your son or daughter ... in the Junior School, the virtue focus this term is Teamwork, with themes of cooperation, listening and unity. In our Secondary character program, REAL, the theme is “The Science of Character and the Power of Hope ”. The students will be workshopping how to live these in everyday situations.
The Tangara family continues to show tremendous unity especially during times when members of our family have experienced grief and loss. As a community of compassion and faith, we continue to pray for the Jalalaty family on the loss of their son Jude and the Hewitt family on the passing of husband and father Tim.
I look forward to working with you, our parents, our staff and our students in putting our plans for 2023 into action.
Best wishes for a wonderful year!

Lent's kick off
Lent's kick off
February 22 is Ash Wednesday. It is Lent's kick off. And we are reminded by the Church to prepare for Holy Week through prayer, sacrifice and almsgiving. The practical side of the three practices can be summarized in: give up something and offer it up. Pope Francis helps us to discover the link between giving something up and love:
"Let us not grow tired of doing good in active charity towards our neighbours.During this Lent, may we practise almsgiving by giving joyfully (cf.2 Cor9:7). God who “supplies seed to the sower and bread for food” (2 Cor9:10) enables each of us not only to have food to eat, but also to be generous in doing good to others. While it is true that we have our entire life to sow goodness, let us take special advantage of this Lenten season to care for those close to us and to reach out to our brothers and sisters who lie wounded along the path of life."
In other words, the Pope explains to us that sacrifice opens us up to a person, who is in front of me in my ordinary life. And it helps me to regard her/him as a neighbour. We don't like sacrifice because it comes with the word NO and oftentimes we don't quite get its meaning. A sacrifice is saying NO to something that helps me to say YES to somebody near me. For example, if I decide not to spend so much time on my phone (which is a big sacrifice) that helps to open my eyes to ones that live with us under the same roof and discover their needs.
Let's get ready for Lent coming to our Lady, so we may discover the real meaning of sacrifice.

Welcome to Infants 2023
Welcome to Infants 2023

Welcome to Infants 2023. We warmly welcome all our families, new and seasoned, to Infants 2023. We are looking forward to an exciting, adventure-filled, and educational year.
Last week, our prep children experienced the first week of their schooling life. There were smiles and wonder all around. I was fortunate to have had lunch on Thursday with our prep children who treated me to tea and delicious sand cake in our play kitchen.
It was great to see our prep children settling in so well, jumping straight into school life with only smiles and lots of imaginative play.
Last week our Year 1 children arrived and went home with smiles, laughter, and a skip in their step. Our seasoned Year 1 students walked through the gates in the morning, excited to reconnect with old friends, and looking forward to making new ones. You could see only enthusiasm from our Year 1 students, taking on their new role as 2023 Infant leaders.
This week our Kindergarten children joined us for their first week. The children were excited to jump into the new year, and hear about the many adventures awaiting them. Fingers crossed they realise they need to come back next week!
The way the children transitioned to school this week is a credit to all our mums and dads who have played an invaluable role in building their confidence and courage.
School is a place for learning and creating memories, and the Infants team will ensure we excel in both these important aspects.

The virtue we have been focusing on is Teamwork. What a great virtue to begin the year with!
Teamwork is when a group of people link up to complete a task or achieve a common goal.
Good teamwork means that the task will get done efficiently and usually requires humility, respect and flexibility.
Group activities are often aided by leadership, but only when the participants respect the leader.
