Welcome to Term 3
As we embark on a new term of learning and growth, we extend a warm and enthusiastic welcome back to Term 3!
This term promises to be filled with exciting opportunities for our students to explore, discover, and excel. There are also many opportunities to unite and celebrate - Trivia Night, Father’s Day Mass and Breakfast, Grandparent’s Day, Leadership Induction Ceremony, Year 12 Graduation Mass and Dinner and of course our much anticipated Year 12 Farewell Concert.
Please keep in your prayers our Year 12 students who commence their Trial HSC exams this Monday 31 July. They have been working diligently under the guidance and support of their teachers, mentors and parents and we wish them all the best over the next two weeks.
How do you deal with the mess in your life?
Whether it's our personal lives, work, family, or friendships, we all understand that life can be unpredictable. While we may have our plans and dreams in our younger years, experience teaches us that life takes us on various paths filled with ups and downs, and we often encounter challenges along the way.
During this term's Key Parent Function, we had the privilege of listening to Karen Bohlin, who shared valuable insights. One key takeaway from her presentation was the importance of embracing the messiness of life and seeing it as a pathway to success. Undoubtedly, stress is an inevitable part of life, but how we respond to it is entirely a matter of choice. This is where growth and success can profoundly shape our experiences.
Let's make a conscious effort to put into practice three powerful tools that Karen presented to us: Recalibrate → Reflect → Respond. By applying these tools in our daily lives, we can learn to navigate the challenges more effectively and find the hidden opportunities within the mess.
Life's journey may not always go as planned, but by embracing the messiness and responding with resilience and determination, we can turn life's challenges into stepping stones to success.
Your Feedback Matters
Our school is using the Perspectives: Your school in focussuite of surveys developed by AISNSW to support our school improvement endeavours. The information gathered will assist in furthering the growth and development of our school community. We will use the survey results to help inform and direct Tangara’s future planning and improvement strategies. These surveys have been specifically designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of stakeholders’ perceptions of five important areas: School Environment, Teaching and Learning, Student Wellbeing, Leadership and Community. All staff, students, parents, leaders and board members will be invited to participate.
The surveys will be available from Monday 31 July to 13 August and are conducted online, taking approximately 15- 20 minutes to complete. The survey link will be distributed via email to all from ‘evidence@aisnsw.edu,au’ on behalf of Tangara. Your contributions are important to the success of our continuous school improvement process as we aspire to improve the learning experience for everyone at Tangara. For any enquiries about the surveys please contact the school at admin@tangara.nsw.edu.au.
Let's embrace this new term with enthusiasm and determination, knowing that by working together, we will create a successful and memorable learning experience for our students helping them to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.
Wishing you all a fantastic Term 3!

Limited Onsite Parking
Whilst our Year 12 students are undergoing their Trial HSC exams between Monday 31 July and Friday 11 August they will be given priority parking in the parking bays opposite Yarra Hall. This will limit the parking availability for our parents during this time. Please take this into consideration when planning your trip to school. We appreciate your understanding and support for our Year 12 students.

Pope Francis will meet hundreds of thousands of young people at Lisbon (Portugal) at the beginning of August. World Youth Day, since it started with Saint John Paul II, has become an iconic event for the catholic youth: it shows to them that the Church is alive and young and that they are the future of the Church. Let's pray for it during this coming fortnight.
However, I would like to reflect on the fact that what teenagers and young people need to grow in their faith is the witness of their parents. WYD and other events are probably decisive moments in their journey to find Jesus but they need the back up of ordinary witnesses. And experiencing the unconditional love of Jesus comes through parents, precisely during teenage years.
We all know too well how challenging a teenager is. She is no longer a kid but someone who by nature challenges rules, authority and traditions. It seems that everything sowed with care and tenderness during Primary school is fading. And that is not true. In their transit to adulthood they need to make a first personal choice about who they want to be and accept as good and desirable the values and faith they have received at home. It is their entrance into the freedom of love. It is a very challenging time for both girls and parents.
Parents need a deep life of prayer, to be in contact with Jesus Christ. So that they can see their teenage daughters as a gift given by Jesus and learn to see them with the eyes of our Lord. So that they can purify their own expectations about their kids and be ready to be a witness of the words of Saint Paul to the Corinthians:
"Charity is patient, charity is kind. It is not jealous, is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its owninterests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

Term 3 has not disappointed; the children have returned to school both excited and focused for a productive term of learning.
Our children have been engaged with our Differentiated Literacy and Math Groups where they receive 1-1 instruction and have the opportunity to work independently. Our writing skills are developing as children are provided with explicit instruction when learning to write sentences and paragraphs.

100 Days at school celebration Thursday 3 August
To celebrate the achievement of being at school for 100 days and of course being 100 days smarter we are having a 100 Days at School celebration. Children are asked to come dressed as their ‘100-year-old self’. Throughout the day, children will be engaging in lots of learning activities based around the infamous number 100.
Maths Information Night Wednesday 9 August
We will be hosting a Maths Information Night and parents of Kindergarten and Year 1 children are warmly invited to gain a better understanding of the importance of ‘Number Sense’ and how we can encourage and reinforce this important skill and other mathematical concepts in everyday life.
Grandparents Day - Thursday 24 August
This event is always a highlight in the lives of our Infants children as we love to welcome grandparents, parents and other special visitors to join us for this day. Our day will commence at 10:30am with a Book Week parade showcasing our Kindergarten and Year 1 children’s favourite book character. Afterwards, our special guests are invited to join the children in their classroom where they will be entertained with a class performance, and there will be an opportunity to participate in fun activities. There will be time to visit the Infants Art Gallery where you can purchase ‘priceless’ works of art. Memory making moments will also be available at our photo booth. All monies raised will go to the Tangara Innovation Fund.
It's Never Too Early!
It's Never Too Early!
In preparation for the Infants Christmas Concert, we would like to ask Kindergarten and Year 1 parents to ensure that all children have a PLAIN white T-shirt to wear for this special event. White T-shirts are usually available at Big W, Best & Less, Kmart and Target.

What a great start to the term! Our school grounds have had a spring clean over the break and the classrooms are looking vibrant and engaging. The children are energised and positive, there is a feeling of vibrancy in the air! I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing all the stories the girls have been telling me of holiday fun. It's so refreshing to hear how much fun the simple things in life can be.
We have many enjoyable and educational experiences and events this term as outlined in the Term 3 Welcome Letter.
Grandparents Day
We are very much looking forward to welcoming Grandparents and special visitors to join us for 2023 Grandparents Day. This year we have two occasions to welcome families: the Infants K-1 on Thursday 24 August and Primary 2-6 Friday 25 August. More details to follow.
Recently when the Pope met a group of children from a Summer Camp in Rome he said the following:
“I don’t know if you know who my superheroes are? It’s grandparents! They build a family and then they grow older. Grandparents are wise and that is why it is important that you all talk to your grandparents. Do you speak to your grandparents?
Such wonderful words.
The Importance of Sleep
I was reminded this week about the importance of sleep for both adults and children.
The Sydney Children's Hospital Network recommends that in primary school the average child should sleep for 10 to 11 hours. NSW Health reminds us that sleep is essential for children’s health and wellbeing. They suggest that it is important to establish healthy sleep habits from an early age to promote growth, good concentration, and reduce the risk of illness.
Open Day
Our Year 6 girls ran a fabulous Open Day for perspective families on Wednesday. They are happy, confident ambassadors of our school. We also thank the Year 5 guides.

GIVE Grow In Virtue Every day
GIVE Grow In Virtue Every day

In the Junior School we have been working on the virtue of Patience.
Patience is being able to cope with annoying and difficult situations without becoming angry or aggressive. Patience uses logic and self control to behave in a way that wont hurt other people. When we are patient we are considerate and kind to those who work slower than us, we can wait our turn and control our actions and reactions.
I am practicing patience when I:
- Calmly tolerate a delay or confusion
- Am willing to wait for things I want
- Set goals and stick with them until they are completed
- Am gentle with others when they make mistakes
Where does Patience fit?
- Love
- Forgiveness
- Compassion
- Empathy
- Charity
- Respect
- Friendliness
- Courtesy
- Kindness
- Patience
- Helpfulness
For older students:
😊Would people who know me say that I’m a patient person?
😊How do I react if a situation is disorganised or a task is taking longer than planned?
😊 What things could I achieve if I exercised more patience.

4 Navy
Beneath Our Feet, is the Science unit for Term 3 that provides students with tasks about soils, rocks and landscapes and how they change over time.
In groups, Year 4 Navy students will investigate soils from a variety of areas, and describe the features and present their findings in a diagram showing the changes over time.
Teams will also participate in hands-on activities that examine the features of different rocks at school and collected from home.
They will present their findings to the class and show how rocks are selected for a purpose and used in the environment based on their features.
Take a look at our budding scientists at work!

From the Secondary School
Welcome back to Term 3
Welcome back to Term 3

We started the term with Secondary Grade Meetings, which allowed us to check-in with the girls and let them know of the happenings for the term ahead. The girls appeared refreshed and ready to embrace the abundant learning and growth opportunities awaiting them.
Congratulations to our Year 7-11 students who participated in the da Vinci Decathlon at Knox this week. The da Vinci Decathlon is an academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of school students. Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines: engineering, mathematics, code breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy. Thank you to Miss Elias and Mrs Bannon for organising the teams in order for them to be able to compete in such a prestigious competition.
Congratulations to our Tangara Mock Trial Team who won their Elimination Round last night against Erina High. Our girls have been preparing tirelessly over the last few weeks and it was fantastic to see their hard work pay off. We eagerly await to hear who they will be versing in their next round. Thank you to Mrs Sahni and Mrs Milicevic for all the support and guidance they provide to these girls.
Good Luck to our Archdale Debaters who have their final round of the competition next Tuesday at Tangara before the finals series commence. It would be great to see some of our Secondary students volunteering on this night for our final home debate of the year.

Mock Trials 2023
Mock Trials 2023
On the 27 July, Tangara took part in the first elimination round of Mock Trial in the 2023 season, against Erina High School. The team took out a spectacular win with an over 30 point difference' the final score being 182 for Erina, and 215 for Tangara. We were assigned as the 'defence' where we had the responsibility of acquitting our defendant of the charge. We were successful in doing so, and won the overall round- a great achievement by the whole team!
REAL Self-Respect
REAL Self-Respect

In REAL we are focusing on Self-Respect. Self-respect means respecting your body, mind and soul. It means having a healthy pride and confidence in oneself; a feeling that one is behaving with honour and dignity. Self-respect is about having the courage to stand up for yourself when you are being treated in a manner that is less than what you deserve. It is about knowing your worth and having the ability to adjust your life accordingly. Self-Respect is not valuing yourself only because of wealth, looks, fame, followers or possessions. It means having a realistic awareness of your strengths and weakness and accepting yourself right now, with your imperfections. It is respecting yourself for who you are and not comparing yourself to others. Self-respect is being real about yourself and forgiving yourself. Self-respect means that you also deeply respect others. You don't need to bolster your own self-respect at the expense of others.
"Even though I'm happy and accept myself as I am today, I still want to learn and grow."
TAKE ACTION - Goals
How will you live SELF-RESPECT...
- Online- with what you post?
- On the phone - with what you text?
- At school - with how you treat yourself and others?
- At home - with how you treat yourself and your family?

Late Arrivals & Early Departures
Late Arrivals & Early Departures
Attendance and Punctuality
Punctuality is expected of all students. This involves being present at school in time for the morning assembly at 8.30 am everyday.
In the Primary and Secondary, latecomers are expected to report to the Main Administration Building with their diaries for stamping. In Infants, the students are to go to Infant's office if they are late, before going to the classroom.
A late note should be presented for an appointment (ie. dental, speech therapy) or alternative arrangement on the day. We strongly recommend that wherever possible, appointments be made outside school hours or during non-term time.
Leaving school during school hours
The school must be notified of any appointments that require your child’s early departure. This can be done by sending a note in your child’s diary, followed up via Engage.
Students must be signed out at the front office before leaving. Once again, we strongly encourage appointments to be made outside school hours wherever possible.
No students are able to leave via public transport during the school day if they are leaving school to attend an appointment and/or going home unwell. A parent/guardian must collect their child from the school.
