As we reach the end of Term 1, it has been a privilege to witness our students living out the values we strive to instill - through their work ethic, the friendships they form, and their acts of service and kindness. Even in the face of challenges or missed opportunities, they are given the chance to grow, learn, and try again. This is part of our commitment to nurturing students who are grounded in Christian virtues, a love of God, and a desire to make a lasting difference.
The past fortnight has been filled with meaningful experiences - from the Year 12 retreat, which offered time for reflection and renewal, to the joyful Easter Hat Parade by our Infants students. Congratulations to our basketball teams advancing to the finals and our debating teams reaching the Octos - an exciting way to finish the term!
This year, the Easter break begins just before Palm Sunday, giving us a special opportunity to live out Holy Week during the holidays. After the season of Lent and the efforts we have made to prepare for Easter, we are invited to walk more closely with Jesus through His Passion, Death, and Resurrection. As we enter this sacred time, let us remain united in prayer with members of our Tangara community who have carried particular crosses this Lent - especially the Tudehope family (Lucy, Class of 2017), the Santiago family (whose daughter, a Year 12 student at Montgrove, passed away last weekend), and the many others in our community who are facing difficult struggles. May the joy and hope of Easter bring them comfort and grace in a special way.
There is much to look forward to in Term 2 at Tangara! We are excited to present our much-anticipated School Musical, High School Musical, showcasing the talent and energy of our students from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 May. On Friday 9 May at 7:30pm in Yarra Hall, we warmly invite all parents to our KeyParent Function, The Fathering Project, presented by esteemed guest speaker Mr John Anderson AO, former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia. This inspiring evening will offer valuable insights into the vital role of fathers in their children’s lives. We also look forward to our beloved Mother’s Day Mass andHigh Teaon Thursday 8 May, and later in the term, our School Feast Dayon 26 June - with a lead-up filled with fun and connection during Spirit Week. It promises to be a joyful and meaningful term for our Tangara community!
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s education. I wish you and your families a blessed Easter and a restful break, and I look forward to welcoming our students back on campus on Tuesday 29 April.

"Our reflection on the mercy of God introduces us today to the Easter Triduum. We will live Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday as powerful moments that allow us to enter ever further into the great mystery of our faith: the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Everything in these three days speaks of mercy, because it makes visible the extent of God’s love. We will listen to the account of the final days of Jesus’ life. John the Evangelist offers us the key to understanding its profound meaning: “having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end” (Jn 13:1). The love of God has no bounds. As St Augustine often repeated, it is a love that goes “to the end without end”. God truly offers all of himself for each of us and holds nothing back. The Mystery which we adore in this Holy Week is a great history of love which knows no obstacles. The Passion of Jesus lasts until the end of the world, because it is a story of sharing in the suffering of all humanity and a permanent presence in the events of the private life of each of us. Indeed, the Easter Triduum is the commemoration of a drama of love which gives us the certainty that we will never be abandoned in life’s trials."
A good way by which we can experience the mercy of God is accompanying our Lady during these three days. If we stay close to her, she will help us to participate in these holy celebrations meaningfully. Mary invites us: come with me these three days and together we will look at Jesus, crucified and risen. "

The Junior School, as always, has been a hive of activity this term with a range of special days and incursions organised to supplement their learning in PDHPE, Science & Technology and Mathematics.

Term 1 in 5 Rust
Term 1 in 5 Rust
Term 1 has been an exciting and enriching time for 5 Rust, filled with hands-on learning and new challenges. The girls have been actively engaged in exploring mathematical concepts through interactive and practical experiences.
A highlight of the term was the Inquisitive Minds incursion, where problem-solving came to life through hands-on maths tasks. The girls embraced the challenge, developing their logical thinking, collaboration, and perseverance - all while having fun! Laughter and excitement filled the room as they discovered just how engaging and useful mathematics can be.
During STEAM sessions, the girls combined maths and science through coding, designing smart house projects that integrated technology and problem-solving. These hands-on experiences have sparked curiosity and deepened their understanding of how mathematics connects to the world around them.
In English, the girls have worked hard to develop their writing skills, crafting both imaginative narratives and persuasive pieces. They have explored the elements of storytelling, using vivid descriptions and strong characters to bring their narratives to life. In persuasive writing, they have learned how to structure compelling arguments, using evidence and persuasive techniques to convince their audience. Their creativity and dedication have shone through in every piece of writing.
We look forward to the exciting learning and discoveries that await in the rest of the year!

Primary School Think Tank
Primary School Think Tank
Tangara is a member of a local ‘Think Tank’, a group of Hills district primary schools who come together once per term to provide non-competitive extension activities. On Tuesday we were invited to William Clarke College to enjoy a variety of challenges.
In ‘Take Centre Stage’, the stage one students enjoyed drama activities which culminated in a performance for an audience of 120. In mixed groups of four, they workshopped a performance piece using a given prop, a hat and a line they had to include in their dialogue. It was wonderful to see their confidence develop throughout the day as they learned about projecting their voices and not turning their backs to their audience, becoming braver performers along the way.
Our stage two students experienced a day of creative art-making in ‘Prodigious Printers’. They had the opportunity to experiment with jelly plates, paint, printing ink and a variety of natural and man-made materials to create patterns and texture. They were able to add hand-drawn lines or cut out selected parts of their work to mount into more 3-dimensional designs that they framed to bring home.
In the ‘Persuasion Pioneers’ workshop, the stage 3 students were challenged to become more convincing persuasive speakers. After hearing some accomplished orators, they were able to critically analyse the arguments they employed. The students also had the opportunity to practise their skills of rebuttal, working in pairs with students from other schools. It was wonderful to see the Tangara girls taking the microphone to confidently contribute their ideas.
Thank you very much to Mrs Ozer for accompanying us to the Think Tank day. The girls represented Tangara beautifully!

Inquisitive Minds visits Secondary
On Thursday 27 March Inquisitive Minds came to Tangara to run a Mathematics workshop on problem solving.
Inquisitive Minds is a program that was made to aid in encouraging better views and execution of mathematics in students and offer hands-on resources and workshops
Students were partnered up to answer mathematical questions in a set time frame. There were 6 different colours of questions: green, blue, red, yellow, orange and white, each colour increasing in difficulty, rewarding more points. During the time limit students had to collect the question packs one at a time to complete as many of these challenges as possible. The IM staff, teachers and some of the Yr 11's went around and awarded to teams that had correct answers with stamps. The pairs with the most points landed on the podium and won chocolate prizes. We were also awarded lollies for bonus questions and there were also ‘chocolate challenges’ where 5 specific questions had to be answered and the first 8 pairs to do so got small chocolate prizes.
What did they teach us?
- Quick thinking
- How to solve problems efficiently and effectively
- Different methods for solving problems
- How to work together
- How to identify patterns
- Constructing diagrams and lists

Year 11 HMS excursion
Year 11 HMS excursion

The excursion to the High-Performance Hub in Blacktown was designed to provide 11 HMS students with a deeper understanding of the latest advancements in sports science and athlete development. This visit offered hands-on exposure to state-of-the-art facilities, expert insights, and practical applications of high-performance training techniques.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the hub’s coordinators, who provided a guided tour of the facility. Students explored advanced gym equipment, high-tech training areas, testing zones, and recovery spaces.
As part of our HMS curriculum, we study biomechanics and its role in optimising performance and reducing injury risk. During the visit, a biomechanist introduced us to specialised tools used to analyse forces and body mechanics. This hands-on experience demonstrated how precise movement assessments can enhance technique and prevent injuries.
A key highlight of the day was experiencing the altitude chamber, which replicates high-altitude conditions with reduced oxygen levels and atmospheric pressure. The chamber was set to 0.6°C, simulating an altitude of 4,900m. As students entered, they immediately felt the extreme cold and observed physiological changes such as a drop in oxygen saturation and an increase in heart rate, monitored using pulse oximeters. Although the experience lasted only about five minutes due to the harsh conditions, it provided a firsthand understanding of how altitude training enhances cardiovascular efficiency, ultimately improving endurance and athletic performance.
The final segment of the excursion focused on performance testing, including the VO2 max test (a measure of aerobic capacity) and the Wingate anaerobic test (which assesses power output from non-oxygen-dependent energy pathways). Jaime Saliba bravely participated in the VO2 max test, achieving an impressive aerobic capacity score of 51ml/kg/min. Congratulations to Jaime for embracing the challenge!
In conclusion, the students thoroughly enjoyed the practical experiences gained, enhancing their understanding of biomechanical concepts and athlete testing procedures.

Hi Everyone!
Two weeks ago, I was privileged enough to be able to attend the 30th National Schools Constitutional Convention in Canberra with 120 other students from around Australia. The main focus of the convention was sections 51(ii) and 90 of the Australian Constitution. This encouraged discussions about the concept of fiscal federalism, considering if the Federal Parliament should be able to make and enforce laws regarding taxation upon the states and territories.
The program was quite eventful, and it gave me the opportunity to make many connections with other students who shared the same passion for civics and politics. We participated in many breakout discussions and debates on certain topics related to the overall theme of the convention, and were able to participate in a mock referendum of our own. I also had the privilege of attending the 2025 Budget Speech in the House of Representatives, and had the absolute honour of being able to meet the Governor General of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC (2nd photo)!
I am immensely grateful to have been given this opportunity and wanted to thank those in Tangara’s community who made this possible and supported me along the way!
