Celebrating what unites us
As Term 2 draws to a close, our school community will come together in two significant ways that reflect the very heart of Tangara’s mission. Yesterday, we held our annual Eucharistic Procession, a special tradition that honours our love and reverence for the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Seeing our students, staff, and parents united in silent prayer and joyful praise was profoundly moving. Led by Fr Fernando Montano, Parish Priest of St Bernadette’s and accompanied by Fr Raphael, Parish Priest of St Agatha’s and our School Chaplains, the procession was both reverent and uplifting. We remembered in our prayers members of our community facing serious illness or hardship. These moments remind us that we are never alone in our trials - we are surrounded by a school community grounded in faith and prayer.
Thank you to the many parents, friends, and Tangara alumni who joined us on the day. Your presence continues to be a sign of the strong bonds that unite us across generations.
Our celebration of the Feast of St Josemaria, founder of Opus Dei and the inspiration behind Tangara and schools like ours, will take place next Thursday 26 June, just before the term break. St Josemaria’s vision of finding God in everyday life continues to shape our ethos, values, and educational mission. The Feast will be celebrated with a whole-school Mass followed by a festive International Food Fair and student-led activities - a joyful celebration of our diverse community and shared spirit.
St Josemaria is often called the Saint of the Ordinary - a powerful reminder that everyday moments are opportunities for holiness. As we approach his feast, let’s continue encouraging our children (and ourselves) to pursue excellence in small things, carried out with great love and intention.
Families are also warmly invited to attend a Mass in honour of St Josemaria onMonday 23 June at 7:30pm at St Mary’s Cathedral, celebrated by the Most Rev Anthony Randazzo, Bishop of Broken Bay Diocese. I hope you can join us.
Reflecting on our most important mission - Motherhood
Last Sunday, Tangara hosted the Growing Hearts Reflection Day for Mothers, with over 130 mothers in attendance. It was a beautiful opportunity to pause, reflect, and draw strength from the shared experience of motherhood. Through guided meditations, enriching talks, and quiet moments of reflection, the day invited us to reconnect with our most important mission in life, and to walk away feeling renewed, encouraged, and empowered. Thank you to our Tangara and Redfield Chaplains, Fr Paul and Fr Phil, and to our wonderful presenters for creating such a thoughtful and refreshing opportunity for personal and spiritual growth. We hope to make this a regular yearly event, continuing to offer our mothers the time and space to reflect, connect, and be spiritually nourished.
Also last weekend, our Year 7 mothers and daughters enjoyed a wonderful time together at the annual Mother-Daughter Camp. It was a special opportunity not only to strengthen the bond between mothers and daughters, but also to form meaningful connections with other mothers in the year group. These shared moments of reflection, laughter, and conversation are invaluable as we journey alongside our daughters through the important years ahead. Building a strong community of support around our girls is one of the most powerful ways we can guide and encourage them through this next stage of their growth and development. Thank you to all involved in organising this memorable weekend away.
Growing our future leaders
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of visiting our Year 11 students at their Leadership Camp, and I left feeling deeply encouraged by the passion and potential of this group of young women. They are already stepping into their roles as future leaders of Tangara with integrity and enthusiasm. Each year our girls are challenged to think about how their personal growth can help them to contribute more effectively to their families, our school and to our community. We need strong, capable leaders who serve with integrity, and that begins with each of us reflecting honestly on how we are striving to grow, lead, and make a meaningful contribution right now in the small day to day opportunities.
Thank you!
As we conclude another rich and full term, I want to thank all our families for your continued support and involvement in your child's education. This term has seen our students engage deeply in their learning, co-curricular opportunities, and school life. Thank you also to our dedicated and committed staff who work tirelessly to support the education and formation of our students and families.
The upcoming break is a valuable time for rest and renewal and an opportunity to step out of the usual routine and spend time on what matters most. I hope the holidays bring you time to reconnect as a family, recharge, and return ready for the opportunities and challenges of Term 3.
We look forward to welcoming all students back to school onWednesday 23 July.

"They will achieve this aim by exercising the virtues of faith and hope, facing serenely all the great and small problems which confront any family, and persevering in the love and enthusiasm with which they fulfil their duties. In this way they practice the virtue of charity in all things. They learn to smile and forget about themselves in order to pay attention to others. Husband and wife will listen to each other and to their children, showing them that they are really loved and understood. They will forget about the unimportant little frictions that selfishness could magnify out of proportion. They will do lovingly all the small acts of service that make up their daily life together.
"And may the peace of Christ triumph in your hearts," writes the Apostle. It is a peace that comes from knowing that our Father God loves us, and that we are made one with Christ. It results from being under the protection of the Virgin, our Lady, and assisted by St Joseph. This is the great light that illuminates our lives. In the midst of difficulties and of our own personal failings, it encourages us to keep up our effort. Every christian home should be a place of peace and serenity. In spite of the small frustrations of daily life, an atmosphere of profound and sincere affection should reign there together with a deep-rooted calm, which is the result of authentic faith that is put into practice."
Hopefully these words can guide our winter holidays. We will spend more time with our families and relatives. Let's come to Jesus so each one of us can make our homes that place of serenity and peace in which everyone is received and accepted as who they are: husband, wife, kids, siblings and all of us children of God.

It’s hard to believe we are already in the final weeks of Term 2! The children have continued to engage with enthusiasm in their learning and experiences.
Infants Sports Carnival
The sun was shining, and the energy on the field was infectious! Our Infants Sports Carnival was a wonderful celebration of school spirit, athleticism, and fun. The day began with our traditional Opening Ceremony March, followed by eight exciting sporting activities that had students smiling from ear to ear. Parents and friends cheered enthusiastically from the sidelines, and we ended the day with a relaxed sausage sizzle and picnic. A special thank you to our High School PASS students and the parents who generously volunteered their time. Your support helped with the smooth running of the carnival and the sausage sizzle.
Pentecost
We celebrated Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. As we learnt about the coming of the Holy Spirit and the special gifts He brings, the children marked the occasion with a birthday cupcake.
Healthy Harold
There was also much excitement as our Infants students visited Healthy Harold in the Life Education van. This engaging program helps children learn about the importance of making safe and healthy choices, all with the help of everyone’s favourite giraffe, Harold!

The holidays are fast approaching and everyone is looking forward to a well earned break. This term has been so full of activity and many wonderful learning opportunities and special events. The upcoming holidays present a great opportunity to keep the learning momentum going in fun and engaging ways. Dr Samantha Hornery, Executive Manager of Learning Education, has shared some excellent ideas for holiday learning. I have summarised her suggestions below:
Activities for Fine Motor Skills & Handwriting
Here are some ideas and activities for fostering nimble fingers and correct pencil grip and control:
- Dot-to-Dot drawings or mazes.
- Origami.
- Colouring in.
- Build models with LEGO and blocks.
Activities for Oral Language (Talking and listening)
During and after school holiday activities, try some new and different ways that you can support your child’s language development:
- Ask them to recount a day out with details of ‘When’, ‘Who’, ‘Where’ and ‘What’.
- If you’re out and about in the car, or it’s a rainy day, try some of these games: Shopping List – ‘I went shopping and bought bread – milk – sugar’ and the child has to remember what has been said before.
- I Spy – modify by giving clues about what the item looks like and what you do with it rather than just saying the sound it starts with.
- Guess Who – make up some clues about a person using personality traits or what they look like, and have them guess who it is.
- Celebrity Heads – ask your child to think of one of their favourite characters and ask questions to uncover who it is.
School Holiday Activities for Reading
Encourage reading by making it fun and interesting for them:
- Pick an interesting book (fact or fiction) and read to your child every day – show by example, a love of reading.
- Read purposeful texts with your child (train timetables, holiday brochures, recipes).
- Encourage a short 10-minute reading session every day to sit and read with your child.
- Visit the local library to help your child find a type of book they enjoy.
School Holiday Activities for Writing
Test out some creative ways for your child to practice their writing:
- Keep a holiday journal once a week with details of ‘When’, ‘Who’, ‘Where’ and ‘What’. Have your child draft it on scrap paper and then present it in a project book or type it on a computer. If they want, they could add in souvenirs (movie tickets, photos, trinkets).
- Write a joke book with your child – tell jokes to each other and write them down.
- Make a recipe book – cook with your child, talk about the recipes and put them in a book.
- Write postcards to family and friends.
- For those children with a wild imagination this is the time to write long, glorious stories because there’s no bell for lunch to disrupt the flow of writing.
Activities for Mathematics
Think about different opportunities to practice basic maths skills:
- All children would benefit from revising times tables – listen to the song in the car, play card games with the times tables written on cards.
- Practice basic maths facts using board games – all you need is a blank board game, die, counters and a 12-sided spinner (or number cards or die).
- Use cards and dice to play maths games – simply flip two cards or roll two dice and add, subtract or multiple the numbers. The answer can be used to move around a game board or score points for the highest or lowest answer. These games can be made more challenging by increasing the number of cards or dice thrown at any one time.
- Design your own games. Children enjoy being creative and can design their own board, materials and rules – lots of skills are practiced with this fun activity.
Wishing all our families a happy and relaxing break.

Secondary School Highlights – Talent, Leadership, and End-of-Term Achievements

It has been a vibrant and productive few weeks in the Secondary School as students across the grades have engaged in a wide range of academic and co-curricular activities.
Tangara’s Got Talent continued with Round 2, showcasing the incredible musical talent of our students. From instrumental solos to vocal performances, the creativity and confidence on display were truly inspiring. We now look forward to the grand final on the last day of term, where finalists will take the stage and compete for the title.
Meanwhile, our public speakers are currently shining in the Voice of Tangara competition. This initiative celebrates the power of spoken word and persuasive communication. With Round 2 taking place next week, students are preparing speeches on a range of thought-provoking topics. It’s been wonderful to see their ideas and voices come to life.
On the academic front, examinations for Years 7–11 have now concluded. Students should be congratulated for their hard work and perseverance during this assessment period. It’s been encouraging to see their commitment to learning and personal improvement.
Finally, our Year 11 students recently attended a Leadership Camp, designed to foster teamwork, reflection, and the development of leadership skills as they prepare to take on senior roles within the school. The students embraced the experience with great enthusiasm and maturity, returning inspired and ready to lead.
As the term draws to a close, we look forward to celebrating the many achievements of our students - both in and out of the classroom.

A Taste of Language and Culture: Cross-Curricular Learning in Action
A Taste of Language and Culture: Cross-Curricular Learning in Action

Students in Year 10 and Year 11 had the opportunity to take part in a vibrant and engaging cross-curricular experience, combining Languages and Food Technology to explore French culture through cooking.
As part of their intercultural language learning activities, Year 10 students enjoyed preparing and baking delicate madeleines, the classic French sponge cakes known for their scallop shape and light texture. Meanwhile, our Year 11 French students expanded their culinary repertoire by creating chicken chasseur, profiteroles, and madeleines, applying their language knowledge in a practical and delicious way.
This co-curricular approach allowed students to not only practise their French language skills in an authentic context but also to deepen their understanding of French culture and cuisine. Working collaboratively in the kitchen, they developed confidence, teamwork, and an appreciation for the cultural significance of the dishes they prepared.
The experience culminated in students coming together to share and enjoy the meals they created - a wonderful celebration of learning, language, and culture.
Please enjoy these photos of our students proudly showcasing their creations. Bravo à tous!

NSW Police Band Visit
NSW Police Band Visit

Last week, we were honoured to welcome the NSW Police Band to Tangara for a wonderful musical visit. The day began with an exciting workshop for our Secondary Concert Band, where students had the opportunity to rehearse alongside professional musicians, gaining valuable insight into ensemble playing, technique, and musical interpretation.
Following the workshop, the Police Band delighted our Primary students with a lively and entertaining performance. Their interactive program featured a variety of musical styles and familiar tunes, keeping students engaged while introducing them to the role music plays in community and public service.
We are grateful to the NSW Police Band for their time, generosity, and passion for music education. Their visit was a highlight of the term and a wonderful inspiration to all our young musicians.

The 2025 athletics carnival was an amazing day filled with fun and laughter, despite the cold that could not dampen our energetic spirits. In this year's athletics carnival we truly saw our year 12 motto in action ‘we’re all in this together’ as each girl was encouraged to participate at their best level. I’m so proud of all the girls who participated and ran, as well as participating in the field events that were held for the first time this year, an amazing accomplishment. One thing I have learnt in being sports captain at Tangara is having the will and determination in anything you do in life, because truly, anything is possible. This applies not only for skills on the track, but participation in cheering. Our students' enthusiasm warmed all our hearts, and I’m sure they all had hoarse throats by the end of it as I did. We are extremely grateful for all of the sport opportunities that Tangara has provided for us; especially for me through my athletics career. A huge thank you to all the teachers, and we hope and pray for all the best in future carnivals and sports initiatives.
