From the Principal
Let’s take a united approach to protect our children
At Tangara, we are deeply committed to nurturing the personal growth of every student. In today’s digital landscape, this means protecting their ability to flourish without the premature pressures of social media.
Recent amendments to the Online Safety Act 2021 introduce new age restrictions: from 10 December 2025, children under 16 will no longer be able to hold accounts on platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube. This Social Media Minimum Age framework is designed to give young people more time to develop resilience, digital literacy, and wellbeing before engaging with social media.
We see this as an opportunity to strengthen our partnership with families. Together, we can support our students by setting healthy boundaries around device use, modelling positive digital habits, and encouraging open conversations about online risks and wellbeing.

Congratulations Year 6!
Graduations are always a time for reflection. They mark not only the end of primary schooling but also the beginning of new opportunities and challenges. It is a moment to acknowledge the dedication and love of parents, the commitment of teachers, and the resilience of students who have grown in character and knowledge throughout their years at Tangara.
Education is more than an academic journey; it is a foundation for life. It shapes who we are, helps us discover truth, and teaches us through example as much as through words. For our Year 6 girls, this milestone is a reminder that life is precious and full of opportunity. We encourage them to embrace each moment with hope, optimism, and courage, to face challenges with resilience, and to always strive to be the best version of themselves and to become the young women God has created them to be.
We congratulate the Year 6 Class of 2025 and look forward to seeing them continue to flourish in the years ahead.
A Note on Kindness!
Last week, on my birthday, I was touched to receive many kind messages and beautifully hand made notes from students. These thoughtful gestures truly brightened my day and reminded me of the power of kindness within our community.
Kindness is not something that simply happens - it is learned, nurtured, and practiced daily. As parents and educators, we play a vital role in helping children develop habits of care and empathy. Small, repeated actions - helping a friend, showing gratitude, lending a hand at home or school - gradually make kindness second nature.
Research continues to show that while many young people prioritise achievement or happiness, fewer place caring for others at the top of their list. Yet it is kindness that strengthens communities and helps children grow into compassionate, resilient adults.
Here are a few simple ways families can encourage kindness at home:
- Teach children to address others with respect, even when tired or upset.
- Expect helpfulness as part of family life, and reward only acts of uncommon kindness.
- Encourage friendliness and gratitude toward everyone they encounter - from bus drivers to shop assistants.
The notes and messages I received this week were a wonderful reminder that kindness is alive and well at Tangara. Let’s continue to foster it together, so our students grow not only in knowledge, but also in character.
Much to Celebrate
As we near the end of Term, there is much to celebrate. Our students have completed their exams, Year 10 have enjoyed a week of learning beyond the classroom through etiquette classes, life skills, and community service, and they will soon step into the world of work through their upcoming Work Experience. Next week we welcome new and existing students at Orientation Day, host an Information Night for Year 6 and incoming secondary families, and prepare for our many joyful end of year celebrations. It is an exciting time, and we look forward to finishing the year strongly. As St Josemaria reminds us, “To begin is for everyone, to persevere is for saints.” May we all carry this spirit into the final weeks of the school year, starting and finishing well.

From the Chaplain
As we celebrate the feast of Christ the King this Sunday, our thoughts naturally turn to the meaning of kingship. Yet the Gospel presents us with a striking paradox: the One who reigns over all creation does so not with grandeur or worldly splendor, but with a humility that disarms the human heart. His crown is woven from compassion, His throne is the Cross, and His power is the love that bends down to lift the weary. In Him we see that true authority is never domination but the capacity to serve; it is the freedom that grows when the heart is no longer ruled by pride or fear.
Each of us, in a certain sense, is entrusted with a kind of kingship: we are called to govern our own lives, to possess ourselves interiorly so that we may give ourselves generously. This inner mastery is not achieved through force of will but through the quiet strength of humility. Humility allows us to see ourselves truthfully, to recognize our limitations without discouragement and our gifts without vanity. It gives us the freedom to listen, to forgive and to begin again. In this way, humility becomes the foundation from which genuine service flows.
As Advent draws near, this virtue reveals its particular beauty within family life. We all know how easy it is to live with a humble person—someone who does not demand to be at the center, who listens with patience, who admits mistakes, who seeks peace rather than victory. Such humility creates an atmosphere where love can flourish and where each member of the family can grow in confidence and serenity.
Christ the King invites us to learn from His gentleness. If we allow His humility to take root within us, our homes can become places where His kingdom quietly unfolds: a kingdom of truth, mercy and joy, born from hearts willing to serve.

School Readiness Days
It has been a special time in Infants as we welcomed new families and siblings to our Prep Readiness and Kindergarten Readiness Days. The children engaged in a variety of fun learning activities designed to help them feel comfortable and confident in their new 2026 learning environments.
Year 2 Orientation Day
Our Year 1 students are eagerly preparing for their Year 2 Orientation next week. This will be an exciting venture as they explore their new places of learning for 2026. The Year 1 boys will visit Redfield, where they will meet their Year 2 teachers and take part in energetic, engaging activities. Meanwhile, the Year 1 girls will enjoy a wonderful experience exploring the Primary campus, gaining a sense of what it will be like to step into Year 2.
Letters to Baby Jesus
In the spirit of the season, Kindergarten and Year 1 have been reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas. As part of their preparation, the children have written heartfelt letters to Baby Jesus, prayers expressing their hopes and intentions for others this Christmas. These special letters were posted in our manger letterbox, a beautiful reminder of the joy and faith that Christmas brings.

Gratitude
Over the past two weeks, the Junior School has been reflecting on the virtue of gratitude. The students have been learning that gratitude is more than simply saying “thank you”, it is a way of seeing the blessings in our lives and recognising the people who support and care for us each day.
Today I asked many students in our playground what they were grateful for and they expressed appreciation for their teachers, their friends, and their families. It was lovely to hear how the girls notice the small acts of kindness that make a big difference in their daily lives.
Astro Sprouts
Some of our students in Year 4 and Year 6 have been enjoying participating in the Astro Sprouts Program with Mrs Hacker. This has been a wonderful initiative that has sparked curiosity about the universe as well as giving the girls the opportunities to learn, create and share their enthusiasm for science in a fun and engaging way. We extend thanks to Mrs Hacker for her dedication in organising and guiding the group.
Primary Presentation Afternoon
The choir students are busily preparing their musical items for Primary Presentation Afternoon, the excitement is building across the school! Rehearsals have been filled with energy and enthusiasm as the girls polish their performance. We look forward to sharing these musical highlights with families and celebrating the talents of our students on this special occasion.

GIVE
GIVE
The virtue we have been focussing on in the Junior School is Gratitude.
Having gratitude means that you are thankful for the good things in your life. It is an attitude that seeks the good things in every situation and tries to see the silver lining around every cloud. Instead of going straight to negativity and panic, a thankful person focuses on the positives and manages to maintain a healthy perspective.
What does gratitude look like?
Gratitude on the most basic level means saying please and thank you to people. It is also not taking them for granted and realising that their effort makes our lives easiest.
I am practicing gratitude when I:
· Appreciate my own abilities instead of envying others
· See difficulties as opportunities to learn
· Am receptive to gifts
· Appreciate the beauty of this Earth
· Count my blessings every day
For older students:
😊Do the people in my life know I’m grateful to them?
😊How could focussing on gratitude impact my relationships this term?
😊 What am I thankful for today, this week or this month?

In year 6 this term we have been learning about our different connections to the world. These connections can be personal or media related.
PERSONAL CONNECTIONS
:
Have they been there? (holiday)
Were they born there? (migrated here)
MEDIA CONNECTIONS
:
Have they read about it? (news/stories)
Do they know someone from there?
Have they seen a documentary or movie?
We have been able to write SUBJECTIVE and OBJECTIVE information reports about these places.
Last week year 6 enjoyed a day at Manly beach!
The girls had the opportunity to learn about beach and water safety, they learnt how to bodyboard and how to surf.
We were blessed with a glorious day and everyone had a fun time!

Year 5 Religion
Year 5 Religion
To mark the feast of All Saints Day, Year 5 held a "Guess the Saint" challenge. The girls researched their chosen saint and then made a poster, representing their saints using emojis. The girls then participated in the Guess the Saint challenge to see how many saints they could identify. Follow the link to the video to hear more from some of our Year 5 students.

Year 10 Learning Beyond the Classroom Program
Year 10 Learning Beyond the Classroom Program
Over the past two weeks, our Year 10 students have embraced a wide range of exciting opportunities as part of the Learning Beyond the Classroom program. This initiative is designed to broaden their horizons, develop essential life skills, and foster a sense of community engagement.
Last week, the students participated in a Galmatic workshop, where they learned practical mechanical skills in a hands-on environment. This session was a fantastic opportunity for the girls to gain confidence in understanding car maintenance and safety, and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The students also attended an etiquette workshop, where they learned valuable skills for interviews and professionalism. This session was both practical and insightful, equipping them with tools to present themselves confidently in future career settings.
They also enjoyed a local walk through Cumberland State Forest, reconnecting with nature and learning about environmental stewardship. This experience combined fitness with an appreciation for the importance of caring for our natural surroundings.
Another highlight was a presentation from the Australian Defence Force. The girls were fascinated by the discussion on careers within the ADF and its vital role in national security. Many asked thoughtful questions, and some are now considering this as a future career path.
This week has been equally enriching. On Monday, the students participated in the Ryda Road Safety Program, learning about safe driving practices and the dangers of distractions behind the wheel. On Tuesday, they visited the Jewish Museum, where they had the privilege of meeting a Holocaust survivor and hearing their powerful story.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the girls engaged in community service, volunteering at a city food bank and at Warrah Aged Care Facility. They prepared meals for those experiencing homelessness, entertained aged care residents with musical performances, and assisted with gardening to beautify the grounds. On Friday, they continued their service through an urban walk, learning about homelessness and supporting initiatives to help those in need.
So far, the program has been a tremendous success. The girls have shown enthusiasm, compassion, and a willingness to learn in every activity. Next week, they will begin work experience placements, gaining hands-on skills in their chosen fields and experiencing the realities of the workplace.
The Learning Beyond the Classroom program has truly brought out the confidence and character of our Year 10 students, preparing them for life beyond school while strengthening their sense of community and responsibility.

Year 10 History Excursion
Year 10 History Excursion
As part of our study of the Holocaust in Yr 10 History, we had an amazing opportunity to visit the Sydney Central Synagogue in Bondi where we met Mimi, a Holocaust survivor. The Holocaust was a tragic historical event that led to the death of approximately 6 million European Jews, with 1.5 million of those being children. Miimi immersed us into her world, and her miraculous escape from the Nazis that took her across Europe and to Australia which she described as “hitting the jackpot” . Her story allowed us to see how this major world event has impacted many lives, as well as teaching us to be grateful for even the smallest of pleasures we used to take for granted in our lives.
Furthermore, during the visit, we also got to engage with a workshop about Rights and Freedoms, as well as artefacts from the Holocaust and tour of the synagogue. It gave us valuable insight into the real conditions that the Jews had to endure, and the rights and freedoms that we have now, that were not present back then.
Thank you to Mrs Sahni, Mrs Papantoniou and Mrs El-Rahi for accompanying us.

Peripatetic Music Soiree
A few weeks ago, students from our Peripatetic Music Program came together to share the pieces they have been working on with their tutors. It was a great afternoon of music, with students across a range of instruments showing the progress they’ve made this year.
Many students performed for the first time, while others continued to build their confidence and performance skills. The supportive audience of families, tutors, and friends helped make the event relaxed and encouraging for everyone involved.
Thank you to our tutors for preparing their students and helping the day run smoothly. We are proud of all the students who took part and look forward to the next Soiree.

I had the pleasure of coaching our open volleyball team, who, after a difficult season last year, improved dramatically with every match. We narrowly missed out on a Grand Final spot, finishing third in the top division.
We were also proud to host Arden, William Clarke College, and Hills Grammar for our home games – thank you to these schools for visiting and sharing in our fantastic facilities.
A quick summary of our awesome players:
Sarah & Sri – The definition of consistency and calm; always reliable with their serves.
Andy – Brings entertainment but knows exactly when to lock in and deliver.
Sophie & Alannah – The perfect pair who know each other’s game inside out.
Gabby & Victoria – Consistent, encouraging, and the ultimate team motivators.
Marina – My most improved player, your growth this season has been incredible!
Inaaya – Affectionately known as “Inaayihilate” for regularly annihilating opponents with her powerful serves!
Please join me in congratulating the whole team!

BNSW Primary State Championships
BNSW Primary State Championships
In a tournament that will be remembered for its intensity and heart, the Division 3 team, coached by Mrs Eckersley, fell just one point short in the semifinal, losing 17-18 and finishing in third spot. The Division 2 team, led by Mr Reg Banez, only just missed out on a chance to be in the final, finishing in third place also. While the places tell one story, the spirit of the teams tell another — one of resilience, unity, and determination.
From the opening games, both teams came out full of energy, to play with purpose. Every possession mattered, every rebound was fought for, and every defensive stand was earned. Each player played with the kind of grit that defines champions — even in defeat. No Tangara player ever gave up – they all fought until the end of every match. They had each other’s backs. The coaches are happy to say that both teams gained pride, growth and the idea that they can stand tall among the very best basketball teams in NSW. We are also grateful for the surprise visit from coach Josh and his expert guidance during some of the matches!
A quote from Mrs Eckersley straight after the last match:
“I am so proud of all the girls. They may not be moving on to the finals, but their journey isn’t defined by this. It’s defined by how they fought together, supported one another, and showed everyone what true grit looks like. They should all be incredibly proud of what they have achieved together”.
Mr Banez said “I am honoured and blessed to coach a talented group of girls who represented Tangara to the fullest with their willingness, drive and a fierce competitive spirit. I thank the school and especially all the parents for their unwavering support. The girls and the school should be proud of their achievement given their excellent result at our first attempt in the BNSW tournament. It was unfortunate we couldn’t go to the finals due to a technicality. I hope that this journey is the spark and inspiration for these girls to continue representing Tangara basketball”

Secondary Hills Zone Touch Football
Secondary Hills Zone Touch Football
It was a season of growth for both the junior and senior touch football teams. Just before the finals, Clara Mulkeen-Suarez, one of our speedy wingers on the junior team, unfortunately sustained a fracture whilst scoring a try! She attended the grand final to support her team who fought bravely but fell just short in a 1–2 thriller. The junior team were remarkable in their determination to improve and support each other throughout the season.
For the seniors, this season was one of steady growth and development. After a challenging start, they hit their stride towards the end of the season — working hard on the field and showing real belief in each other. Although they just missed out on a semifinal spot, their improvement was undeniable. Each game showed more confidence, sharper teamwork, and stronger communication. Both teams ought to be proud of their efforts this semester!

Year 10 RYDA excursion
Year 10 RYDA excursion
On November 17, our Year 10 students took part in the RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) excursion, a program designed to equip young people with the knowledge and skills needed to become safe, responsible road users. The students participated in practical demonstrations, interactive workshops, and thought-provoking discussions that highlighted the real-life impact of decision-making behind the wheel.
One of the most powerful components of the day was hearing from a road trauma survivor, whose personal story reinforced the importance of making safe choices whilst driving. A hands-on demonstration with a trained instructor allowed students to observe how factors like speed and reaction time influence braking distances. Many commented that this session helped them appreciate how quickly situations can change while driving.
Throughout the excursion, students were encouraged to reflect on their responsibilities as future drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. By the end of the day, they walked away with a deeper understanding of road safety and a clearer sense of how their actions can help prevent harm. I would like to thank Mrs De Kock and Mrs Woo for attending and assisting me to supervise on the day.

Captains' Corner
Hi, my name is Jaime, your Sport Captain for 2026. My passion for sport began at the age of five when I first stepped onto a netball court. Since then, sport has become a huge part of my life, shaping who I am both on and off the court. I have been playing netball for 12 years and have loved every season. Each one taught me resilience, teamwork, and commitment. Alongside netball, I’ve enjoyed participating in a variety of other sports including tennis, touch football, oz tag, swimming, squash and many more. Being involved in so many different sports has helped me build confidence, stay active, and create many friendships. As Sport Captain, my goal is to encourage the Tangara community to get involved in sport not just by competing, but by supporting and cheering each other on. I hope to inspire all students to challenge themselves, give their best effort, and most importantly, enjoy the spirit of sport. I’m excited for the year ahead and can’t wait to see what we achieve together in 2026!
